I took my grandson out to Livermore today in order to see the B17 and B24 land. We had to good fortune to have a few escort planes this year as well. Here's a few pictures.

If you haven't seen these planes firsthand it's a tremendous opportunity to do so. It's possible to go for a tax deductible tour (inexpensive) or a full flight experience (expensive).

Looks fun! What do you get to do on the inexpensive tour? I got to fly a Vans RV7a experimental this morning... stick and rudder, what a difference from a Cessna!

The inexpensive tour let's you climb through the interior of each plane. It's actually very interesting to see not only what "fly by wire" meant in the 40's but to see how things were as far as how cramped the quarters were. One has to remember that the main purpose of these craft were to deliver a payload of explosives and not to shuttle people around. The rest of the crew, besides the pilots and navigator, were essentially there to ensure the safety of the cargo.

Tom, do they still have...

the 'Merced Annual Antique Fly-In'? Should be some time in June? They used to have a great static display of A/C and an airshow of sorts with P-40s, P51s, aerobatics, etc. NEVER MIND - I searched the web.... they just had it this last weekend. Anyone go?
