Hi guys.
I recently picked up a metalic black hardtop for my 2000 Artic Silver Boxster. I was about to drive down to the body shop for a quote on how much to repaint it when my office manager said "Why paint it? I like the black on silver look. Isn't the soft top black anyway?" Any thoughts on what look is better? Below are two photos of the black top on my car and a photo (from Ebay) of an Artic Silver top on and Artic Silver car. I would be interested what the Boxster community thinks of this color combo. Thanks.

You mean you picked up a $1500 option Deviated Color hard top for the price of a regular hard top. Wow!

Seriously, it's really a personal call. I know there are others out there that have different color hard tops - the most memorable being a red top on a black car. If you prefer the monochromatic look with a top then by all means get it painted. OTOH - if it will only be on the car for a short tome or for track stuff then why bother?

It is really a personal preference thing. My top is Ocean Blue on Zenith Blue which doesn't quite deviate as well as black. I'm finally getting off my lazy butt and contacting shops to get it painted this week.

Actually I got the Hardtop for $1350, including the stand and dust cover. I did not realize it was a $1500 option over the cost of the regular hardtop. Looks like I got lucky.

My preference is to match. You could leave it black if you liked it that way. Some people leave CF hoods unpainted. But for me, unmatched body panels are not so good.

I hope I didn't mislead you... There's no such option but if there was it would probably be as much as I indicated ;)

I have a feeling that I am going to wait until summer (after April 15) and have it painted to match along with touching up some various imperfections on the car.

I just noticed your SoCal location. You probably won't need the top very much anyway. ;)

BTW, didn't you live up here a while back? Your name seems familiar. If you are who I am thinking about, you had an issue with a sun visor. We all went to Big Basin National Park.

No I have not lived North. Though after visting Pacifica I think I might like to. Despite my location I will get a lot of use from the hard top. I feel better leaving the car at the airport flyaway with a hard top. My sirname is fairly common so you probably thinking of someone else.

For what it's worth and just my opinion but I rather LIKE the black top on the silver car. I realize most, if not all factory tops shipped on the cars were the same color but I really like the look. So as always, do as you prefer on it. Maybe it goes to my previous life where I had a red Austin-Healey with black hardtop...

I like it!

Black + Silver is a great combination

After a week, I think I've decided to keep the top as it is. In fact, I am replacing my wheel color center cap crests with the black ones. Thanks to everyone who shared their opinions.
