Joanie & I are on our way out the door. For some reason, our daughter didn't want to "chill" with her parents, so that left only two seats to fill... goodbye Durango, hello Boxster!!! Yee Haw! :D

Look for an Ocean Blue Boxster in South Shore, we'll be sure to wave!

Happy Labor Day to all!!

We had a great time in Tahoe. I was surprised, the entire weekend and ~700 miles, we saw ONLY one Boxster and 2 Carreras! The weather and roads were great. Saturday we drove from South Shore to the Rib Cook Off in Sparks NV. Sunday night we watched fireworks on the lake.

This car is built for road trips, we had two suitcases, 2 folding chairs, beach umbrella, ice chest and collapsible floaties!

Coz the "serious" laborers went out on "serious" road trips  :D hehe

Just got back about an hour go, having left on Friday morning.

Need to get the exact numbers, but about 30 hours of driving, and 1900+ miles in 4 days of driving +1 day hiking - where the car got a rest).

I'll post the details later either on this thread or start a new one, with pics, etc. but here a couple of teasers pictures - maybe someone can guess where I was, at least to the State level, coz I think #2 gives at least a range of states :o (and I can pick about 2 - 3 clues in the above details)

hmmmmm..33 degrees F in the daytime. High desert, perhaps. Guns, Ammo and Beer all in the same store. :D You gotta love that place wherever it is. Nevada? I dunno.

1900 Miles! Whoo Hooo! :D Looking at the second pick, the trifecta of Guns, Ammo and Beer, screams TEXAS, but I'm gonna guess Fredonia, AZ... am I close? :)

Looks close but that temp on the dash guage reading 33 degrees F in the daytime would have to be incorrect. Of course, I'm assuming it's daytime based on the picture next to this one. That could definitly throw of my calculations. Still, night time lows didn't reach that temp though thesee are current and forcasted temps. Could have been lower when he was there. Not enough clues for me. See below stats:

NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE FLAGSTAFF AZ

A quick Google of Jud Auto Service Chevron led me to the Fredonia guess. I assume the two pics weren't taken at the same time. Is that 6:23 am or pm? hmmm, the mystery coninues. ;)

Wow - I was taken aback by your first guess , but you are right. I didn't mean to imply that the 2 picts were taken together. The first one is in Kaibab National Forest on the way to the north rim of the grand canyon - wanted to get some sunrise pics there, but came up with the idea way too late. I was staying in Jacob Lake, AZ which is about an hour from the rim. Went out anyway, the temp dropped to 32 F for a little while but couldn't take a picture. The time was 6:23 AM. Managed to get a couple of good pics.

Driving at 32F with the top down is so invigorating (of course I was only driving 40ish mph to avoid deer, etc) and the heat was blasting, etc. Compounded that the day before I was driving with the top down and no AC at about 100+F. :D

So... the gist is this.

Left Friday, went through Yosemite, down on 395, stopping in Mammoth Lakes for a coffee, and stayed the night in a place called Olancha.

Saturday morning, went through Death Valley, into Nevada, down 95 into Vegas. Had linner (or is it dunch - same idea as brunch) in Vegas and then drove to Jacob Lake, AZ.

Sunday drove in a friend's car to the North Rim of the GC and hiked 10 miles (5 each way) to Widforss Point and back.

Monday, drove on 89A to 89 (az), took 89 south first in the direction of flagstaff, got bored and the scenery wasn't changing fast enough and too much traffic for my taste, went up 89 to Page, AZ and then drove back to Jacob Lake.

Tuesday morning, drove around JL for about an hour (took the first pic) - wasted a cpl of hours coz my friend locked the key to the rental car in the trunk of the rental car :p, (nearest locksmith was in Utah:rolleyes:) then drove to Vegas, and then came back the quick way, through 15, 58, 5, etc.

Most of the way had no cell phone coverage... and I was keeping my fingers crossed - "pleeeease, no flat" and "pleeeease, if a flat, then not a blowout" :D

Impressions and Pics to follow later in the next days or so.

Sounds like a great trip (sans the key in the truck of the rental)! :)

As far as the Fredonia guess, I have to give most of the credit to Google. ;)

I was so distracted bt the guns, ammo and beer (three things I love very much, by-the-way) sign that I didn't even notice it was a Chevron. lol Great googly moogly, Bob, good spot.

so here's some pics...

Yosemite... (4a)

Looking back at Yosemite at the 395 intersection... (8)

cheapo (only in quality, not in price) motel in Olancha, CA... (18)

Cute place in Death Valley - thinking now that I should have stopped and checked it out... (37a)

On the way to Vegas... (44)

Looking towards Flag Staff across the canyon (at the end of the hike)... (102)

Going towards Marble Canyon/Navajo Bridge ... (115a - the red circles contain vehicles)

Driving where those red circles were. Isn't it amazing how accurate the warning labels are getting these days... (139)

Colorado River from Navajo Bridge (in Marble Canyon) - should've taken the tripod off the camera, would've come out a little less crooked ;) ... (134a)

Right after sunrise, on the way from Jacob Lake to North Rim ... (164a)

last one...

Glenn Canyon/Lake Powell vista point...

Overall impressions...

1. We are lucky to live in a beautiful country, and to have the ability to see it in a great car. There is a burnt area that the forest service leaves as is to recover naturally (Grand Canyon area). Drove through it a couple of times in my friends' rented car with windows closed, AC on. Later on, driving my car with the top down, smelt the burnt forest for the first time and realized that earlier on it was more like looking at a picture, and now it felt like I had actually been there.

2. Gotta take more road trips

3. Gotta take more pictures on trips. Thought I took quite a few, but ...

4. Time to hit the treadmill - knew I'd put on weight, didn't realize how much :(

5. It's great to have like-minded people to share your expriences with :p

Thanks for the photos. Looks like the Weather Gods looked favorably upon you for those days. Great shot of the canyon.
