I must admit I'm intrigued by the 2009 S offering 310hp and better fuel economy along with a sequential 7 speed. What I've not heard is when these might hit the US.

Also, as I've never bought a Porsche new, I'm curious about suggestions about time of year to purchase and how much bargaining might reduce the price.

Your thoughts?

Jack

not sure of the date, but i think it will be in the spring. my dealer says he can order the 2010 boxster with pdk, etc. so i am guessing spring. your post asked about the 2009. i am talking about what will be the 2010. 2009 won't have the 310hp, pdk, etc.

Thanks for the link that led me to the Boxster video! It certainly had me salivating, and really ran down all the available features - making me glad I started this thread. Now if only I can win the lottery before March 09.

Can wait for the configurator "build your own" on the Porsche site shows the build data for the 'NEW' Boxster...

Al:
I do not have the MY09 Boxster order guide, but someone provided me with the link to the MY09 Cayman order guide, which should be very close to the Boxster / Boxster S, except for base price, which should be lower (including lower horsepower). Even though the car is referred to as a MY09, it will most likely be MY10 with a Feb./March introduction. Anyways, the link for the download is:

Hope this will hold you until the Boxster order guide is released.

Thanks Vincesf, that gives me something to go on, I would like to trade-in my 2006 Boxster and order a 2009/10 Boxster S...

Up here in Canada the prices are all much higher, but at least I will have an idea of how much I'll need to save for the 'new ride'!!

Hello, Jack. I'm no expert, but I think the best times to buy a new car from a dealer are (in order of increasing advantage to the buyer)

end of month
end of quarter
off-season (especially relevant to a sports car, and most of all a roadster)
end of model year
end of model life cycle interval
end of calendar year.

If that's true, now would be the absolutely best time to buy a new 2008 Boxster from dealer inventory.

Anyway, the worst time to buy a new car model is when it is first released to market. So, though it is the end of calendar year and off-season, the 2009 Boxster is at the start of its model's latest life cycle interval. I would be very surprised if any good deals could be had now.

That said, the present state of the economy may make dealers do strange things. ;)

Good luck!

Thanks all.

I'm just pipe dreaming, but if I sell my Subaru trade in my Boxster S, and unload a guitar or two, I just might do it as 09 fades into the distance. Mostly the notion of a 7 speed manual/automatic with over 300 HP has really peaked my interest; especially so as arthritis continues to dog my left ankle.

Jack

Jack, if you have not yet, do go test drive a 911 with PDK. Your left ankle and all else will love it!

From that experience it will be easy for you to imagine a Boxster with PDK.

Take it easy.

Good points.
If you talk to dealers regarding an '09 Boxster, they will state that production numbers have been cut significantly, and consequently they will not negotiate much on '09's Of course, they said the same regarding the '07's and '08's. Further, dealers are sitting with significant inventories of '08 987' s and 997's at substantial discounts. Also not surprisingly, '09 997.2's are starting to pile up as well, and I imagine the same will happen to the 987.2's. If you want to be the first on your block with the new model, expect to pay for it. If you wait a bit you could have a 2010 with a July, '09 build date, at perhaps a better price than an '09 with a January '09 build date. The dealers are now telling me that the first 987's will be MY09 models, and if that is the case, expect a changeover to MY10 on cars built from June/ July 2009.

Thanks for the link to the Cayman order guide. It definitely helped me to get a sense of what PASM, Limited Slip, and PDK would run (about 6,000.00) making the pipe I'm dreaming about probably a bit too large. So maybe in 2013 or so I'll try to find a good used 2009!

I optioned out my ultimate '09 987.2 S and with 19" wheels, PASM, LSD, Sport shifter, Porsche sport exhaust, sport chrono, and a few other great options, the sticker price came to $75,000 or over $80,000 with tax and license. That coupled with the dealer telling me that Porsche is cutting production and they are not willing to deal, tells me that my '08 987S will just have to do for a few more years, which quite frankly, I am fine with. Just had my oil changed and the dealer upgraded my engine mapping to an RS60 and it feels GREEAAAAT!

Are the prices up now?

This is so true. Bought my Lexus a few years ago towards the end of the year and the last year for that style. They offered me 6.5k off MSRP and I still managed to haggle another 1k off that by the time deal closed vs MSRP plus markup for the new model.

Gee, I wonder if any of those dealers are mentioning what has happened to the Euro too? Down about 25% vs. the dollar. Let's see, the new 2009s with a base S starting price of $57K should make it worth about $43k. No?
