The weather in the San Francisco Bay Area has been unusually warm and dry lately. After some days with temperatures in the 70s recently, I finally knew it was time to remove the hardtop from my Boxster.

So today a friend helped me lift it off and place it on the trolley. Then we replaced the windscreen. I insisted on practicing carting the hardtop myself, to prove I could do it solo if need be. All told it wasn't bad. I can see how it would be possible to remove the hardtop alone, but only if you were desperate.

Soon after came the driving of the Boxster, top and windows down. And it was good. The people rejoiced! I did, anyway. ;) What a car.

I'm sorry... I don't mean to taunt those of you who are snowed in, but: there is nothing quite like driving a tight roadster with its top down on a beautiful, sunny day. So much fun!

The Boxster sounded great, felt great, and almost seemed to say "Finally! Why did you wait so long?" Temps were in the 70s all over the Bay Area today, and as I glided down and up highway 280, basking in the sun and wind, I occasionally reached that one-with-the-car state, where I am so relaxed I am nearly napping. :D

This great winter weather in California will end in tears, I suppose, but all the more reason to enjoy it now if we can. Pop the top, folks, and wind that thing out.

With good wishes for a Happy New Year,

i never realized before that you were so mean, snaxster. taunting those of us who have temps in the 20's is cruel. someday the top will come down, but it will be a looooooong time. :(

in the meantime, i guess you could drive vicariously for the rest of us.

Yes, baxter, I knew the risk. :o But I just had to share my fabulous Boxster experience of today. :)

Anyway, that top will be down in no time. Two to two and a half months at most. And there will still be Boxster driving in that time. Hang in there!

in the meantime, i guess you could drive vicariously for the rest of us.

I will bear that burden, baxter. It's a tough gig, but someone has to do it.

Actually I will bare that burden. Top down == bare... get it? Terrible, I know. :D

Good luck over there. And when you do drive this winter, be safe.

Thanks for your post Snaxster - I felt like I was there with you:) By the way, it will be 5 degree's below zero here in Michigan on Friday:mad: I had the Boxster out last month for one ride after it was in storage for 1 1/2 months and it sure did feel good to get back behind the wheel. How quickly you forget. Blu.

We're expecting a heat wave come this weekend.

that's funny, tom. i thought of you when i made my post to snaxster, since you have recently made the "adjustment" from sunny california to the midwest. you must have more pain that those of us who are relatively use to this.

My pleasure to post, Blu. Lamely, as I said to baxter, I can only say "Hang in there."

Small consolation though it may be, I will also point out that those of us who must wait through winter earn the eventual pleasure of driving their Boxsters as those of us who need not wait do not.

And if it helps (since misery likes company), note that I'm still trying to move to the woods in the Northeast, where winter is real. I'll get my turn!

Best,

Snaxster

Wow. I was unaware of Tom's move.

From the Boxster-ing perspective, that's commitment, Tom. :) I don't know your story (and I'm not asking), but I can relate. Believe me, I would much rather stay in California or move to the south of France than settle in the old, cold mountains of upstate New York.

Best,

Snaxster

you folks that are freezing right now, can take solace in the fact that in the summer you will have water to wash your cars, we won't:(

Oh, and this afternoon I was cruising with both windows down and the sunroof open on my C2.......that's as close as I can get to top down driving nowadays.

While I roll top down year round anyway, I haven't even had to keep the windows up lately. But just to make you all feel much better, if this weather doesn't change REAL SOON, we are looking at some serious water rationing this summer. So while it sounds nice at the moment, it could have some serious down sides in the big picture. Does that make you all feel better?;)

Stop it, Paralizer; they'll find you and they'll get you. They'll corral you with their Boxsters. Tops down! :D

My apologies if I make it worse for those who can't enjoy it, but including today it has been 3 days in a row that I've been driving with no roof and no windows.

If it's any consolation, it gets way too cold at night for top-down driving :o:o

:D

I was feelin' it too, Snaxter! Top down from Milpitas to San Carlos yesterday! Big swings recently, it was 76 degrees at one point yesterday... 39 on the way back to work this morning!

I guess I'll have to replenish my supply of Dri-Wash for the summer :(

It's currently 21 and snowing here. High for tomorrow is supposed to be 0 (no, I didn't forget any other digits :o) with a low of -11. I'm headed to the airport to fly to sunny L.A. for a meeting tomorrow morning. Should be fun driving when I get home at 10pm tomorrow!

:D

Yeah, all the way down to 44 degrees F. Although last week we had ice on my truck in the morning.

:D

yes, I am always wondering when I see a Boxster with a hardtop here.
There is really no need for that here.
