Hello folks, just reading through the site an catching up on a lot of items. I've been reading mikefocke's buyers guide and searching the forum but cannot find the answer to one concern that you may be able to help me with. I have a rather steep transition from the roadway to my driveway and garage which concerns me. How low is the Boxster? Do any of you have similar situations with your driveways? Since this will be my DD I can't really see using boards, etc. Any thoughts or ideas are welcomed.

If the opportunity presents itself I will certainly try (slowly) getting up the driveway before purchasing but there are no dealers in my state at this time and even used sales appear to be a couple hundred miles out.

I have about a 4 inch lip at my driveway, and I must take it at an angle or I will scrape. Not a deal breaker!!:D

same thing for me when i leave our local bank. i have to angle onto the street left side first in order to not drag. straight out won't work.

my Boxster was lowered about 1.5", never had any real problems. Always enter and exit driveways at an angle. Once you train yourself you do it without thinking about it. I learned many years ago with this car.
Front RSR spoiler was ~3" off the ground:eek:
and this was my daily driver as well as AX and Track car for 5 years:D

Anybody around with one who could try it for you?

Us P-car owners like to help. If there are any Boxsters you ever see parked in town make up a flyer and stick it under the wipers even if you don't know the guy asking for 5 minutes of his time. Helps if you buy him a beer/coke...

I get the impression certain front bumper and airdam combinations of certain years may look more aggressive and thus reach down further but that is without measurement.

Great idea, if I can catch one around town I'll certainly ask. I'll refrain from the flyer though as I wouldn't want to upset anyone by getting that close unnannounced.

so where exactly are you in arkansas? there are many porsche events in this area.

I am in Cabot which is just East of Little Rock. I have not seen very many Boxsters around here, just one in the last 2 weeks actually. There are literaly hundreds of Corvettes in my area, seems like there are more Vettes than anything else.

Are there any regional boxster sites for our area where I may be able to see a list of events or possibly find a local sale? Seems the closest dealer is in TN.

before someone else beats me, you should mark your location on the googlemap. i am not far from you. we joined the local pca and have enjoyed many of their events. your region would be different, but i know they do a huge event in eureka springs every year. there are some great boxster roads south of harrison. a day trip to the wineries in north arkansas is fun. don't know of any local sites (i assume you mean internet). there is no dealer in little rock? the one in springfield has been good to us. let us know if we can help you.

Thanks for the replies. I have been unable to find a dealer anywhere near me and am having horrible luck finding a Boxster local to me. It looks like I may have to make my purchase several hundred miles away. I'm going to keep looking for someone local so that we can check out the driveway issue and am attaching a few pictures in case anyone has a similar situation or can give me an opinion. I really want the Boxster and patience has always been an issue for me but I don't want to get all the way home and find out that the driveway is a deal breaker.

Please take a look at the below and let me know what you think.

Here is what I use to drive, a 2004 Ford Lightning:

It had fairly low clearance on the front end with the bumper but was not a problem. I'm sure it was higher than the Boxster but I don't know how much.

Here are a few pictures of the driveway:

Again, opinions are welcomed.

So why would you want to own a car of a brand

where there is no dealer near you? I say that as someone who has dealers 30 miles north and south and who was used to dealers and independents all around. The 30 miles is a little long if you hav a serious problem and have to have it flatbedded in to get it worked on.

Yes I do most parts ordering over the net and get some of the routine stuff done by a local but those are only for things where the mechanic doesn't have to know about anything Porsche-special to do the work. And I do some myself. But it sure is handy to be able to stop on the way from work and pick up a part or to drop it off on the way to work. Not sure I'd buy a brand that didn't have a dealer somewhat close.

And it isn't just Porsche...we have no Hyundai, Saab, Volvo, Subaru, VW, MB, BMW etc dealers where I live now and those would be disqualified too.

maybe it is just me but the the closeup picture with the Lightning in the driveway and then the wide angle shots, don't look like the same house/garage to me:confused:

anyway, that driveway would not be a problem, just enter or exit at a 30-45* angle and you would never have a scraping issue...:D

Its rather strange but there are Porsche repair shops local to me according to the internet and phone book, just no dealers selling them. Not sure how that happened but it struck me as odd also. Perfection Plus which has several great reviews online by Porsche owners is 26 miles from me and there are two others as well.

ETA - I found the PCA Ozark region and am contacting their officers for advice in regards to my location and the lack of dealerships. From their website, they speak very highly of the local shop that specializes in Porsche. I'll post what I hear from them when they respond.

LOL, you are correct. I just moved to Arkansas a year ago and sold the truck since that time. The picture of the truck was at my house in Louisiana. Here's a picture of the truck the day I sold it as it was being loaded up:

Well, the folks in the Ozark Region PCA have been very helpful in helping me identify several local shops that specialize in Porsche repairs. Back to my search for the right one.

The curb bridge in Griots looks like the solution for you. Also, what some others have said, coming it at an angle might work also. See photo below.

I'm thinking I can come in at a hard angle on the left hand side and just make the circle to get to the garage. I have a friend up the street with a lesser angle and will park it at his house if the angle doesn't work until I can get something like the Griots bridge.

Well, just got home with my new to me 2003S. It was storming when I got home so I just cracked my window so that I could hear better and pulled in at an angle. No problems! Thanks. I'll post pictures once the weather clears and I get some rest. I had a 9 hour drive and enjoyed every minute of it, even the torrential rain.
