Hi all,

I was helping a friend to try out some wheels (from craigslist).
And learning that the seller also has a set of (big red ones) brakes from the 2006 Carrera S.

Anyone can confirm if they will work on my 99 Boxster?
Please let me know, thanks.

what do you need those for?
the stock Boxster Brakes a very very good.
look at Spec Box....they use stock brakes with no issues over the time of a race.
Good brake fluid (DOT4) like Pentosin, and some nice competition brake pads like Porterfields or Pagids and you will be fine for your uses.
Save the money and heart ache and keep your stockers.
spend the money on good pads and good tires.;)

The reason I asked... because the set of brakes (whole system) will be really really cheap (like a few hundred bucks). I just don't want to pass up a good thing. I guess I don't need them.

Dan, how about cryo-treated rotors? I will need some rotors soon. They were high-recommended by a few TTers.

I will be getting some R888 for the Buttonwillow event, and the Pagid oranges soon.

cryo treated rotors seem to last pretty well. But the question is.
does the price for the cryo rotors help any in the long run.
if they are 2x as expensive as normal rotors....just get two sets of regular rotors since they are easy to change...
Front rotors on a normal Boxster are pretty cheap in the overall scheme of things.

and those calipers you want would require an adapter and possibly a different set of front rotors....and I don't think the rears will work without some expensive fabbing....IIRC

Like the 914. The stock brake system is quite good when properly set up.

On my '99 all the times I went to the track with it and ran some pretty long sessions, I never had any brake issues...with some upgraded front pads and Pentosin DOT4 fluid.
You can spend your money on other things like suspension that will be better money spent..:)
Here is a pic of Larry and I playing at BW a few years ago...
Completely stock brake setup other than track pads up front and Pentosin DOT 4 fluid.
My Boxster had H&R sport lowering springs, ROW "S" front and rear sway bars and some negative camber front and rear.
Spend your money on that instead of brakes.

Look out Clemson.... you'll be in GT before you know it.

yeah, I know....

just throw in a couple of turbochargers, big wing, cremeric brakes, some crazy suspension...
gutting out all the interior, and cut off the windshield
removing the header, cat...
oh and 4 wider slicks

if no one else is in the GT-Oh! class.... I can take the year end award :D

Well, I think I will definitely do the PSS9 before the end of year.
How many points for your PSS9 upgrade, Ken?

should be 45 for the springs and 20 for the adjustable spring perches...

For AX, my boxster has 400 pts now...

Current(400) + PSS9(65) = AX12(465)
Current(400) + PSS9(65) + R888(50) = AX11(515)
Current(400) + R888(50) = AX13(450)

I can't really lower 3 to 5 secs with these upgrades, can I?

I might have to use my 914 then...
(I hope I classified my 914 correctly... Dan, can you check for me?)

I don't care about the TT class that much my boxster at this point.

Just go with stickier tires for now - you've noticed how fast Demick is with a stock S and old Victoracers.

Biggest impact will be tires... you 'might' get 2 seconds out of the R888, but you'll have to adjust to the tires too. If you drive the same way, you won't get all you can out of the tires. I'm convinced Hoosier's would net a good 3 seconds on the hypothetical 60 second course...(once you get used to them).

I'm going to break from the pack on this one. I do think if youre just going to use the car for street and track days it cant hurt to go with bigger brakes. Your car is a lot heavier than spec racers and those cars go through pads and rotors fairly quick. ...And only pad that most of the spec racers can agree on is very expensive Pagid. I had brake problems at Laguna with my car ..Granted I'm very aggressive in braking zones but still stock brakes were pushed to their maximum during my sessions - probably due to fact my car was a few hundred lbs more than most spec cars.

I spent a lot of time last weekend stripping tons of weight out so I expect brakes to work a little better now. Funniest thing is the car lost almost 200 lbs and didnt gain much in AX points. LOL! Still in AX7. I can pull even more out with no points. Those big bad Boxster S's are going to find an ugly little 2.5 car nipping at their heels soon at LPR AX events.

The fronts might bolt on, but I believe there is a problem going from Base to S brakes in the rear due to the P-brake. Not sure about 986 -> 997S. I don't have the details, just recall reading that. The Brembo Big Brake kit advertised in performance part mags apparently has a solution for that, but they run well over $2k.

The good thing is the fronts provide a majority of the braking performance and experience a majority of the stress.

I will try to stay in AX14 this year (both of my 914 & boxster).
If I do upgrade my boxster, I will just use my 914.... to run AX (just need to push harder). I hope I can still squeeze a few AX events with the RA-1s on the 914.

I almost forgot about the feel of my 930 brakes..... it was so wonderful. hehehe... I should have swap my brakes before I sold my 930. (just kidding)

At the last track event.... Becky & Mac's BoxsterS has the Brembo brakes.... I was drooling more than their dogs. :o

I believe they are $30-$40 more than the regular one each.
Too bad no one has them available before my track event. I will just order the slotted ones (all 4) this time.
