I just took the 987 plunge and picked up a 2006 Boxster S. What an amazing car and bang for the buck (at least until maintenance costs kick in ;)). I think I may move into the garage and sleep in it.

Great forum. Looking forwarding to contributing.

Welcome and beautiful ride, thanks for posting pics. You mean you haven't already started sleeping in it yet?:D Regarding maintenance there is a lot of DIY info available here if your inclined to DIY just use the search. You'll be hearing from Dedes soon so I won't spoil her gig.

Thanks!

Sadly, I'm already without it. :(

Had an appointment to have the tires balanced this morning (brand new Toyo Proxes and slight steering wheel vibration) and noticed the "service engine now" message on the computer and about a quarter quart of oil on the garage floor. It's on it's way to a Porsche dealer now.

I had it checked by a friend who owns a shop that works on German cars before I purchased. It checked out great with the computer showing no over-revs, etc. We shall see...

Whew

The sole cause of the leak was a loose oil plug (which is somewhat disconcerting, but a relief nonetheless). I'm told they will check the threads, seal, etc and change the oil at their expense.

Wind Deflector

It's back in my garage with no leaks and no steering wheel vibration -- tested up to about 90 mph today. :D

Not that I will have to worry for a while (here in Baltimore), but the only option I think I might want to add is a wind deflector. Do you all find these help wind noise significantly? I've searched this forum and others and have seen mixed reviews re: the effectivenes of the deflectors.

Now, I'm retiring to my garage...

I experimented with the wind deflector on and off, and it did reduce wind turbulence and noise a little, but not too much from my opinion. I like to sit in a very upright position, and so unfortunately, an inch or so of my head sticks up above the highest point of the front windsheild. Thus, regardless of the wind deflector, part of my head still gets blown around like crazy. But that's my scenario and I am rambling on. To get to the point, yes, they do work to reduce wind and sound. Would I pay 250 for a new onw - no. Try to get a good deal from used ones or on ebay.

Or, not knowing the 'hassle' part of the equation, you might find someone with a deflector and have a plastics retailer copy and cut a duplicate and then only buy and install the plastic tabs to secure it to the roll hoops.

not sure if it saves enough to be worth it?
