To Hoosier or not to Hoosier

A pair of nice Hoosier' R6's came up on Ebay and I am thinking of getting them. Has anyone run with the R6's? Did you think they were better than the Sport Cups from Michelin? Did you think they were worth the money?

Hoosiers are great for ultimate grip just this side of full out slicks...
but they will wear like a gum eraser...
The tread is basically a hologram...
I don't particularly like the Michelins for a track tire..
The Hoosiers are in a whole different echelon of track tire.
They will last probably no more than 1/3 to 1/2 as long as the Michelins...
If you want ultimate grip then the Hoosiers are the way to go.:D

If you don't like Michelins Sport cup for track tires, which do you like?

for a heavier car I would use Kumho Victor Racers or Nitto NT-01s.
Kumho V710s are nice but tend to get greasey in a few hard laps on a heavy car when the ambient temps are above about 75*.
I used to run Dunlop DOT Rs on my Boxster but they only imported them for about 1 year.
I have friends that have both run the Victorocks and the Nittos at AX and DE and have gotten good mileage and good performance from them:D

Dan,

I just read the interview with Walter Roehrl in this month's Panorama magazine. There was a statement from him which made a lot of sense to me.
Basically he said he wouldn't put full slicks on a street car without installing stiffer springs (to compensate for body roll due to much stickier tires).
So my question to you is: Where would you draw the line what stickiness is still acceptable for a stock suspension.

BTW: There was another remark from him: When he tested the new 2010 Turbo on the Nuerburgring he said that the OEM Bridgetones are so good that he didn't get any faster lap times when he switched to race tires.
I'd love to know what Bridgestones Porsche puts on the 2010 Turbo.

OH as I am a big Walter Roehrl fan I'd like to quote him:
"Understeer is when you can see the tree you're hitting, oversteer is when you only hear and feel the impact"

Chris, I am not a fan of slicks on a stock car either...and for that matter a stock suspension car really isn't set up to fully utilize A6s.
For a car on stock suspension, Nittos, Victorocks are about as good as you will get.
And Walter is right, the newer "street" tires are pretty remarkable.

The new Dunlop Direzzas, Bstone RE11, Hankook RS3, Kumho Ecsta XS, and a couple of others are pretty amazing for non-DOT Rs and wear ratings over 100.
I am running a set of fairly hard (340WR) BFG Sports right now on my C2 and they did very well at my last outing at Laguna...
Running low 1:50s on Street tires, with H&R sport springs, stock sways and stock struts.
Very mild alignment.
Next season for AX and any track duty I am considering running a set of the Nitto NT01s, but may just put on a set of Kumhos Ecsta XSs or Dunnys.
These street tires now are better than the DOT Rs of 10 years ago.
