... how could Porsche let their security lapse? I hope this forum doesn't get sued for unauthorized release of confidential material.

.... finally put it together today. You know, the car feels faster now.

that came out nicely Ken:D

how did you finish the underside?

I would have posted in anonymously if I were you...

;-)

Ken,

nice work. very distinct.

John (the guy abusing you ccw wheels)

But you know, I've been playing with an idea...

every time I take weight out of the car, I like it more...so, on that slippery slope, I've been thinking about taking more stuff off the car...in line with the Spyder concept.

the easy stuff was the rear cargo box, and two carpet / insulation pieces that cover the motor (top and front), the spare tire / tools...easy put in / take out stuff.

I did a lightweight battery, lightweight racing seats, lightweight exhaust & wheels...

I haven't done the flywheel, but I will when I do my clutch. there's the A/C and stereo, and all the floor carpet as well as carpet out of both trunks.

all of which I think I'm going to do.

but what about the top & top motors and windows & motors.
I've been thinking that a good upholstery shop could make a nice fabric top similar to the one that comes on the spyder pretty easily. they could even use the front bar / latch from an old factory top frame...maybe even use some of the bows from an old frame...OR simply use a new rollbar design to pull the top over with some simple latches at the back. Replace the existing rollbar with something by Tony over at TC designs - not a full cage - just a nice rollbar at whatever height is appropriate for the driver and seat setup (and eliminate the need for the BK extension for tracking the car)...soft top that latches at the front to keep it sturdy at highway speed, runs over the top of the roll bar and has an attachment system at the back. You could probably get some 'windows' made from the same stuff they make the windows out of for boat canvases...only for those times that you've got to keep water out...

You could have a street safe (still have airbags, 3 point belts, etc) car (mine's an 01 s) that weighs in the 2600 lb range when you take the top off...meant to be used like the Spyder where 98% of the driving is top-down anyway....

sound crazy? yes. sound fun? yes too.

The look kinda grows on you but what about rain (I guess you just don't drive in it), dust and debris falling in and people asking when's the Bar-B-Q?:D

for those that take this literally...

it was for fun.... an extra decklid for the summer. however, it can be converted very easily to weatherized if I was inclined.... fabricate a metal drain pan and run the drain lines out near the edge of the deck into the area between the pop up spoiler and latch.

Is it worth the extra GGR AX points for non-stock trunk lid? :D

with the super structure Ken has under there to support where the metal braces were cut, it is probably heavier than the stocker;)

.... solid oak plank, with oak plywood pan. I'm a woodworker, not a sheetmetal guy.... yes, it is heavier. I'm telling people I can plant the rear end like a 911 now.

I'm sure there is some kind of aerodynamic effect those holes create. Clearly unfair advantage.
