My Boxster was just painted and I've got 90 days while the paint cures to decide whether or not I want to put the PORSCHE stripe back on. I was set to have it installed until I saw the car freshly painted and now I'm undecided. Your thoughts please.

It did look good with the stripe on it so I'd say go for it again unless you like the naked look better.

Tom I'm just curious how others view it. The two body and paint guys at Dibble's said they liked the naked look and my mechanic there said he liked the stripe. I thought it was an interesting correlation.

I know in my case I'm generally not a fan of it but on your car it did look good. I'd say if you were happy with it before the paint job to get it done again.

A lot of it has to do with the color of the car and on Silver or White I think it's probably good but on a darker color I think plain is the way to go.

Well it's interesting that the poll is tied and I'm in the same spot. I like both now that I've seen the car repainted. Perhaps in the end I'll flip a coin.:D

lol that was my thought too, tom. just do one side..........:D

I actually almost put that in my post. LOL! Or I could put POR on one side and SCHE on the other and maybe people would pronounce it right.

I agree that the stripe looks better on light colors. There is a Speed Yellow Boxster I see around town with the "Boxster" strip and I think it looks good. It reminds me of a P-Car I used to drive. :)

I admit I've been tempted to put lettering stripes on the side of my Arctic Silver/Boxster Red Boxster as well. It is adds a bit of race heritage feeling to an already classic looking beauty.

I've wondered about a racing stripe (or stripes) down the center of the car too to really add the race car feel, but considering I've track day'd once and AX'd once, I'd feel like a bit of a phony in it. Still tempting though...

I don't track or AX much anymore either but I viewed it as a celebration of the racing heritage of Porsche. Remembering that our Boxsters were developed from the 550 Spyder, RS60 and 70 lineage cars, that were the foundation Porsches in the racing heritage, is a part of owning a car from a manufacturer that takes that heritage into consideration when developing its line.

I like the stripe and it's pretty unique. Why did the car get repainted?

I'm usually not a fan of stripes on a car...my last new car ('09 Challenger R/T) had stripes when I got it and the first thing I did was peel them off. But thankfully, you included those pictures...I'd say if the car had more aggressive wheels or something else of visual interest on the side of the car, then you could leave them off. But, in the "before" photos (with the stripes) the car just looked better. More "nostalgic", if you like. Put 'em back on...

So after a month I've tallied up the responses from this site and two other sites I ran a poll on, where I didn't think there'd be any over lap, and a smattering of opinions from people who weren't on the sites and the tally is:
Stripe 25
No Stripe 27
The difference is in the body and paint guys who did the car and it is only natural they wouldn't want something covering up their work. Subtracting them out leaves a dead heat and is an indication of where I still am... undecided, and because I won't put just one side on at the end of 90 days I'll flip a coin.
Thanks to everyone who voted and expressed an opinion.

Ron, with the silver I like the Porsche graphic. I think it balances the car and I like the look. Martin.

Thanks Martin and everyone. I cleaned Darlin' up this morning getting ready for the trip to the Concours and the Reunion in Monterey and we did a coin toss heads for a stripe and tails for no stripe. It came up tails so she wants to stay with a clean look now.
