I'm shopping around for a used Chevy truck for construction work. Will a 4.8L Vortec be good enough for a work truck? I won't be trailering anything, just things like sheet rock, bricks, tools and various things.
 
It won't win any races but its no slouch. You'll load down the bed with too much weight for the suspension before it's too much weight for the 4.8 to haul. Its got 285 hp and people were hauling full loads in pickups with half as much horse power 25 years ago.
 
It will be great for a work truck, good enough power and better mileage than the bigger motors.
