My Boxster suddenly started leaving oil spots on the driveway and my thoughts immediately ran to RMS failures and $$$$$$.

Oil puddles on the top of the engine ruled that out. After removing the throttle body and tee, I found that the oil filler tube had shattered at the elbow.

I understand this is a common failure but at >100K miles, I'm not too concerned.

I'm just glad it is a problem I can fix (as soon as the parts arrive from Sunset Motors)

A lot better than any of the other possibilities!

Regards, Maurice.

I almost messed up big-time pulling out the stub of the filler tube from the block.

The left mounting bolt fell into the block through the broken pipe stub.

I thought, " Well, now I get to rebuild the whole engine!"

Luckily, I was able to fish it out with a magnet. :o

Whew. Sometimes, home repairs can be costly! But not this time.

This is why I keep cheap cat litter in the garage. Not the fancy stuff the cat actually poops in. :D

Wow such a cliff hanger for you! Thanks for sharing the experience so we can all be aware when this happens to us.
