Spec. Boxster Build

here is a one lap video of the spec Boxster in action in early January '07 at Laguna Seca.
Very cool day....tire temps never got over 120 degrees.

The owner Bill is driving and I (instructor) am in the passenger seat.
we went from 1:57 in the am down to 1:49s and :50s in the PM.

@ Docdanracy,

Does the car have any performance mod done power wise? How much faster does the car feel now that you stripped alot of weight from it?

the only current performance mod HP wise is the car has a specially modified stock muffler. It was done by a Porsche Mechanic friend of mine.
We (Bill has) have a dyno sheet before and after muffler modification showing at peak an 11 HP increase at the rear wheels. The increase across the power band was anywhere from a low of 1 hp to the max of 11 hp increase over stock....not bad for some cutting and welding of a stock muffler.
More mods will come during the year....
probably headers and then either sport cats or straight pipes connectors with no cats.

It will be dynoed again to check for more increases..then possibly an intake and computer upgrade (reflash)

currently only the moded muffler.

currently the car is by far the most tossable Boxster I have ever driven or ridden in on the track, and I have driven almost every flavor of Boxster including the "Monster Boxster"
Monster has more power because of the motor swap but the spec Box is the most neutral and tossable due to the weight reduction and stiffening with the complete weld in custom cage and suspension mods.
If I had about 25K to throw at a race car this is what I would build.
with the prices of 2.5L Boxsters now, I think you could easily build a spec Box very close to what Bill has for ~22-25K, maybe a bit less depending on the price of the car you start with.

WHOA! What did you do to the muffler? Was there any torque loss? What RPM range did the 11HP come in at?

here is the dyno sheet. for HP and TQ. torque was either flat or increased across the board..
best increase for both HP and TQ was at 4500rpm...

the moded muffler works and here is the proof.

no other mods to intake or exhaust....completely stock other than muffler.

by the way....Bill did a dyno pull with the snorkle removed...no change in HP or TQ just sounds nicer.

If anyone wants information about the muffler please contact me here thru the board. The moded stock muffler is cheaper than an aftermarket muffler and here is the dyno sheet proof that it works.

thought some of you might be interested in this.
This morning we started with a very nice '97 Boxster and by late this afternoon we were well on our way to a spec Boxster.
GT3 sway bars, tarret sway bar links, new drilled rotors, new PSS9s with stiffer springs, gutted interior, top and stock roll bar removed (getting ready for a custom built roll cage.)
And lots more.:D

here is the link to pics and some narration.... http://www.914club.com/bbs2/index.php?showtopic=62696

This was done today by a few 914 owners along with a couple of 914/Boxster owners

Need more....

Made my day this Sunday. Always enjoy track video. I too would like info on the muffler upgrade. Do autox and DE's in my 2000. Love the track time...thanks for sharing. wbonsell@comcast.net

Only what you can hear on the video...outside the car it sounds very nice....
inside you know it is different but not objectionable. Especially for a track car.
