I love Cobalt Blue! If you don't care about PSM as an option, the 2000 S will probably be cheaper. I believe there is a minor difference in the speedometer digital display and maybe cupholders. Love my 2000 S. A lot of options kinda scares me (weight/more things to fail). I prefer mine stripped.

the 2000s has traction control, supple leather, on board computer, memory all power seats, full leather interior, small carbon fiber package, factory Nav, 6 speaker stereo with 6 disc changer and a whole lot of others. It even has reverse sensors, a very rare factory option on all Boxsters. Car was special ordered from factory by original owner, not just a dealer inventory car.
both are one owner, dealer serviced cars.
Yes it is Cobalt Blue, again not a color you see that often on Boxsters.
Lite grey full leather interior. Metropol Blue top.

I love my silver 2000S. It has the 6CD changer and Traction Control, but other than that it's stock. It's amazingly stable in corners, reasonably quiet, and the most comfortable car I've ever owned. I've had 14000 trouble free miles with reasonable tire wear (Pzeros). Purchased on EBAY from Highline Motors in NJ and the only thing they warned me about was I'd need a new rear plastic window (about to replace with new glass top).

Wonderful car. Dan, BTW, thanks for your quick responses to any of my posts.

Jack

Buy it

Dan,

Buy the one with all the options - you're such a fast driver, you need the handicap of an additional 50 pounds.:D

Doug

still in negotiations....have them down to $21988 from their starting point of $24988. this is for the one with all the options....has a brand new rear window, new brakes, new tires. Along with all the other stuff.
Pushing for $20K:D

Dan,

if possible I would get a 2003 S.

Reasons:
* Glass rear window (the plastic window is a pain in the butt)
* VarioCam Plus

Cheers
Chris

yep Chris, if all things were perfect I would get a 2003 or newer, just for some of the things you mentioned. But I have a budget for my toy....and a 2003 even with high mileage is out of my budget...:(

glass rear window would be nice, but the blue car I am interested in has a brand new plastic window...and with the way I used my '99s, the plastic will be just fine....
Glass window does restrict rear view...

and 8 HP would be nice. But on a car as heavy as a BoxsterS, not really that noticeable...;)

I have too many other toys to drop big $$$ on this one...
$20K would be just perfect, and you can't get into a 2003 for anything near that.

here is a pic of the center stack:eek:

well, in this case anything a bit closer to $20k would sound like a pretty good deal to me. I love how the center stack looks

Oh yes, one more thing that speaks FOR the 2000 model:
The changes that created the IMS problems (see my signature) were introduced with the 2001 model year ;)

Hi Ken,

I got this from the Bentley book (changes introduced in each year), here it is:

====================
2001 model year:
"To reduce timing chain noise, the intermediate shaft drive chain was converted from a roller type chain to a tooth type chain. This change also required modifications to the crankshaft and intermediate shaft sprockets and corresponding chain tensioners"
====================

And from all I know (this is not from the book but my opinion) this design change is what caused all the intermediate shaft problems

well they have all but met my price. so now I just need to do it.:)
before my purchase I do want it to go to my favorite Porsche shop for a little personal PPI;)

Keep us updated. I may be doing something similar soon. I could get rid of 3 cars, dialy driver, race car and tow vehicle if I go back to a streetable Boxster. I always wanted an S as well. Now I can afford one!

Exactly Grant, I would like to have a car I can drive every day again, but still have fun on the weekends.
Eventually I would do some suspension mods and get a second set of 17s with some DOT R rubber.
But initially I just want to drive to the events, flog the car, and then turn on the AC and stereo and cruise home:D
there is something to be said for creature comforts.;)
If you get rid of all those vehicles your insurance premium will drop also....

sweet, I am glad you finally graduated from your 914 to join the Boxster crowd - Yes that was a cheap shot (I know you had a Boxster before), I just couldn't help it :D

Yes, and MAYBE my car will one day drive again and MAYBE I can attend an Auto-X again and MAYBE I will then be only 1 second slower than you ;)

Good luck with the new ride

I was reading over on Renntech that you have been contemplating a 3.4 or 3.6 transplant Chris....
that should be nice.
I have driven a 986 with a very well done 3.4 conversion, it was done years ago (one of the first). It really makes a huge difference in the car's capabilities.
Are you still thinking about doing this?

yes, I am still thinking about it, but it's pretty unlikely that I will do it.
As I learned on renntech IF I do a conversion it better be a 3.6L conversion, and here are the challenges:

a) my warranty will (hopefully) pay for the new engine (the jury's still out on that) and it's doubtful that they pay for a 3.6 instead of a 3.2  and I also might void the warranty IF I have another engine problem
b) for a 3.2 -> 3.6 swap I will have in any case pay for the core charge ($3k)
c) I need to upgrade to DME 7.8 ($1k ?)
d) the mechanic where I have the car is a great guy with LOTS of Porsche experience but he never did a 3.2 -> 3.6 swap in a Boxster

So in total too many maybe's and too much money involved (which I currently don't have disposable), so I guess I will be happy with a brandnew 3.2L

...but then again yes it's VERY challenging and maybe I change my mind at the last minute :D

nothing wrong with a nice newish 3.2L;)

I will be calling about the S tomorrow...may be in my garage by Friday...:D

lets see....more HP (about 140+), more weight (about 1000lbs), more ride height, I guess I better be on my game...and pull from all my years of AXing. This will be the first time in about 10 years I have had a car with some actual HP:eek:
