bluetooth via CDR-220 '01 boxster

Hi All

any experience from someone hooking up
aftermarket bluetooth adapter to Becker CDR-220
on my 2001 boxster (pre MOST system)

I heard of Parrot CK3100 system.

Or perhaps a combined GPS/handsfree phone device
makes more sense ..

What are you guys using apart from pioneers with build in screens with DVD etc.. just looking for a smaller scale gizmo for now

I put the Parrot in my Model Year 2000. I'm running the TrafficPro with Satelite Radio. Works Very Well. I can post photos if you would like

That would be great! I was thinking about going with the Parrot, but (as we all know) there is not much interior room in the Boxster, so I wasn't sure how/where it would fit. Also how is the clarity? Do people on the other end have trouble hearing you with the top down? How does it compare to using a hand held unit?

there is no bluetooth unit that works with the top down. at least not that i have tried. the second generation of jawbone i have heard good things about but have not tried it yet. i have the first generation and it is not good with the top down and speeds at highway speeds.

Parrot Installation

Here is a photo of my Parrot Installation. There is double sided tape on the back of the two units (satellite and Parrot unit.) Prior to installing the Satellite radio the Parrot unit was in the middle of the "bat wing" and it did not droop at all.

I had it professionally installed. It is possible for a DIYer to do it but for me not worth the headache. The microphone is above the driver's head to the left of the rearview mirror (see photo).

If I had to do it again I probably would have the guys at FRYs install it. If you buy the unit there the installation is pretty reasonable.

waste of money, waste of time

my experiences with the Parrot was bad:
* nobody understood me with the top down
* the volume from the speakers was too low (the Parrot links itself into the rear speaker circuit and turns off the radio when a call comes in), well that reminds me that this does not work if you have an amp in your car, so I had to re-wire the whole thing to switch the front speakers
* from time to time the whole unit would not pick up calls
* in the middle of the call sometimes it would create a loud screeching noise, at one point I had to pull over and pull the key out of the ignition to make it stop
* it's a PAIN to install
