Should I put 18's or 19's on an 01' Boxster? I don't want to go too big and stock it has 17's. I never understood buying custom rims if they're the same size as stock. I'm really thinking I should go with 18's. My dad's Turbo is running 19's and it's got a little fender gap. I don't necessarily want the rims to tuck, Oklahoma streets suck.

do you mean different 18s since the pic of the car you included already has 18s on it?

those are turbo look/technology wheels. Factory option for later Boxsters
they should be in size 7.5x18 on the front and 9x18 on the rear.
wheel size is stamped on the wheel next to the valve stem along with the offset.
tires should be 225 front and 265 rear.
turbos have 11 inch rear wheels, and much wider rear fenders....they also have a different offset...the won't fit on the rear of a stock 986.
 
I had a 2003 just like your car, same colour too, it had the other style of 17" wheel though, a little too busy for me, a pain to wash as well. Even have a picture on a yellow Boxster.

Considering your comment: Oklahoma streets suck. and the fact that the ride get harder and less forgiving with each wheel size increase I would rocommend only going as far a 18" Here is a picture of my favourite factory wheel for our cars.

But if the wheels from the Caymen fit, this would be my choice for 18" wheels...

Actually, 16" are stock on your Boxster. As Docdanracy says, those look like the upgraded factory 18" Turbo Look wheels already. If your roads suck, there's no way I'd go for 19" and seriously consider 17" wheels. 19" are too big IMHO for a 986. The 986 is not that big of a car. 19" will also decrease your handling.

One of the reasons for buying custom rims is to get lightweight wheels. The Turbo Looks are relatively heavy. Another reason people get custom wheels is just to look "different" or customized. Depends on what floats your boat. Good luck.

That's why I chose to go with my 18" Fikse wheels. They look good and are pretty light. They're a bear to clean though :rolleyes:

I have a set of 18"champion rg5 on mine and cleaning the wheels are a pain! but its all worth it! I love the look of mesh wheels on 986 cars!

That's what I was thinking but, a buddy of mine was telling me different.

18's it is. I've owned Porsche's before just never a Boxster. In the auction I bought the car from the owner states they are 17" wheels so, until I get it delivered Saturday or Sunday that's all I have to go off.

How about 18x8 and 18x10 on 02 'S'
Spacers will adjust to your own preferences.

Yours do look great, Tom. I think my RG5s, boxs2000's, and yours could have a contest on which take the longest to clean :rolleyes:
 
OKBoxster - I also have a 01 that came with the same stock 17's. The previous owner put on some aftermarket 18's and I'm quite happy with them and get lots of comments on them.

Tire size question/answer

We are running 245/35/18 front, 285/30/18 rear
for the track/Ax only KUMHO Ecsta V710. It is really close in the wheel well and some rubbing
in the front when you turn maximum lock in the
parking lot (solution=don't turn it maximum).
The rear has 23mm spacers for 18x10 E65 offset wheels. The fronts are 18x8 E52 wheels without spacers, but we plan to put 15mm spacers to bring the tire out to the outside fender line.
AND, the camber has just been increased to -1.0 front and -2.0 rear with H&R Sport springs lowered 1 inch. We haven't run this new alignment/lowering setup on the track yet - coming up on the Jan. 13th PCA DE in Phoenix. We have a lap timer and can compare equipment during stepped improvements/changes (because my son is a smooth and consistant driver :) and he rides this same track on his bike; Yamaha R6 with about the same times as the Boxster last time out).
