CANEPA MOTORSPORTS MUSEUM OPENS

mail

Canepa Design announced today the opening of the new Canepa Motorsports Museum located in Scotts Valley California just 20 min. from San Jose. The museum is open Monday to Friday, 9:00AM to 5:00PM and Saturday 9:30AM to 3:00PM. Special guided tours are available upon request.

The Museum is dedicated to the spirit of automotive competition and the celebration of engineering excellence. A broad spectrum of racing cars and motorcycles from the golden age of the sport to modern times are on display. Each vehicle in the collection has been hand chosen by Bruce Canepa for it’s unique contribution to the history of the sport. The museum is not focused on one form of racing but showcases examples from multiple disciplines, everything from Formula One to NASCAR and dirt track Sprint Cars to Le Mans 24 hour winners are on display. The sports hero’s are also well represented with Championship cars driven by David Pearson, Richard Petty, Dale Earnhardt, Rusty Wallace, Don Branson, Freddie Agabashian, Jacky Ickx, Mark Donohue, Don Prudhomme, and Scott Parker. An accomplished racer in his own right, Bruce Canepa has had the forethought to preserve and collect some of his own racecars from the past. These include the 1981 Pikes Peak hill climb car that carried him to 2nd overall and the last Porsche 935 produced by the Porsche factory, which he raced in the IMSA championship in the early 1980’s.

The museum is located at 4900 Scotts Valley Drive, Scotts Valley, CA. To learn more about the museum and Canepa Design please visit the company web site at http://www.canepa.com/

Does anyone want to do a guided tour?

If there is enough people I would be happy to set up a special tour for Babblers. I have been there about 4 times before the museum opened up (which is on the upper floor) and this place is amazing to see.

Sign me up!

I would love to do this trip again - - - it was so much fun the last time!

Ok.......

I emailed Canepa today to find out what Sat would be available for June, July, August and September. Once I hear back I will post the dates available and see if we can make a lunch/tour at Canepa Design. Let me know if anybody else is interested.

This place is something to see.

Just heard back from Canepa Design

Looks like Sat. June 7th or Saturday, August 2nd is open. Both dates are the same day as the Porsche Boxster Brunch at Alice's Restaurant. Maybe meet there for brunch and then go down the coast, Hwy 1 to Canepa Design. What do you think? I would think we need to get back to Canepa ASAP to reserve a time & date.

OR.......
Sat. July 26th
Sat. Sept 13th

I am also checking with Canepa for available dates on a Sunday in June, July & August. Once I gather up some dates I will do a POLL here on Babblers on what date would be best. :)

I know they are closed on Sundays and but sometimes they can be there on a Sunday and I might get a special tour on that day. Will see!

Cheers!

Aug. 2 looks good so far. We could have a quick brunch and leave about 11am for the ride.
Any Sat in July is OK also.
George

Did you get to see the custom work/design back rooms of the building?

BTW, thanks for sharing your pics. I have some too. Will post them later on.

Yes, I've known Bruce a number of years and he has space in the back that are just awsome. John McCaws 250 SWB was just sitting in one room and a 34 Ford Hot rod (original) in another.

here's a few pics

of the back room cars
you can sign up for the tour and see more in person :D

Question? please response asap

Had a quick question for all of you that are interested in Canepa Designs Museum tour.

I was thinking Sat June 7th after the Boxster Brunch @ Alice's to head down the coast to Canepa. (that is the only time in June for myself & Canepa) I have a awesome route planned from Alice's.

or Sat. July, 26th
or Sat, August 2nd after Boxster Brunch

Please let me know what date is best for all of you.

I know George said June 7th was not good for him.

Great idea Dede.

I probably won't be making it on the first 2 dates (traveling all of June, and attending a wedding on 26th July), but sounds like it'll be a good time whenever everyone is able to go.
