I will bring it to my mechanic (SPORTECH) tomorrow...

But can someone share some experience, if you have this before?
Is this a big ticket item?

Fault Number:P1411
Description:Porsche fault code 208 - Secondary-air system bank 2
Repair Infomation:Below limit

Yesterday, my mechanic reset the code to set the CEL off.

And couldn't find any obvious leaks in the secondary air injection system.
Is there any test that someone can do to identify the leak? Just looking with the eyes... it not very scientific, the problem area can easily missed, especially in those tight space.

And what should I do to the car now? Since there is nothing replaced and repaired to the car, should I still drive it like I used to... occasion 5K+ rpm? Should I ease on the gas? What should I do? Can I still autocross with the car (Aug22)? The CEL is not coming back yet after driving to work, home, work, 26 miles each way. What is the potential harm to the car if I do not do anything to fix the problem? Should I just wait for the CEL to come back again to comfirm that there is a real problem?

I need to understand what is the secondary air injection system do. Is it injectin extra air when the engine has not enough oxygen? And the decision is made by the MAF sensor? I am not technical at all, you all can tell.

I just don't want to simply replace the MAF sensor if it is not the problem.

thanks, I printed out... and need to read it carefully. thanks for the writeup.

Your problem is you took the car to a mechanic who DID NOT go to Clemson!

Go Tigers!

hahaha... Go tigers!

I ended up bought a MAF sensor online, and replaced it myself (needed a special tool "Torx T20 security"). And reset the CEL with my Durametric. I hope the CEL will not come back.

The CEL came back... so it is not MAF Sensor....:(

A friend and I checked a few things followed MikeFocke's paper.

We know...
0) MAF sensor is new
1) the relay #10 is working
2) the air injector is working
3) the wire between the relay and DME is working
4) 40A fuse is in good shape
5) Secondary Air Injector started in the morning for about 45 sec, I listened carefully.

If anyone thinks of something to try, please let me know. Thanks.

The link a few posts up gives a good overview of the system. The next thing to chase would be the vacuum lines and valves. It is not uncommon for the vacuum resevoir to crack and leak or to have the valves stick. Do you have a vacuum gauge?

Anyone knows how to test the Air Change-Over Valve ans Electronic Change-Over Valve?

Found a vacuum gauge...
Now, I'll continue to follow mike focke's instruction.

Hello Clemson,

I have been trying to clear these same codes since my car is due for Smog Inspection. I have replaced a number of parts, but the codes persist, so I suspect a vacuum leak now at this point. Here is a link to what I posted on Renn Tech.
http://www.renntech.org/forums/index.php?showtopic=27661&hl=

Sometimes two heads are better than one, so if you would like to meet and work on this together, that would be great. I live in Willow Glen and have a garage and most of the tools required.

Terry

Terry, what parts did you replaced? Just curious.

I worked the problem some more with my friend Anthony today at his place in Cupertino.
We popped the vacuum hose from the Electric Change-Over (ECO) to the Air Change-Over... and turned on the air injector by shorting the relay. We found that it was not vacuumed. So it could be ECO or the vacuum hose.

I am not a mechanic at all, was just tagging alone. My friend is doing most of the work. I really want to get it fix soon, so I can go the track with some peace in mind. I know the secondary air injector system doesn't affect the driving, but still hates to see the CEL in my face.

If you want to compare notes, or work together, you can call me. 250-5888.

I need to access the air change-over valve and electric change-over and the vacuum hose.... how do I go about it? Do I take out the intake manifold? or is there any other way to do it?

If I have to take out the intake manifold, how do I do it?

I hope some one can give me some hints. Thanks.

I not sure if you looked at my RennTech posting, but you can see photos of how I did it since I replaced the Electronic Change Over Valve and the Air Change Over Valve along with the easily replaceable vacuum lines and connectors.

The Electronic Cross over valve can be replaced by removing the Alternator, since it sits directly behind it. The Air Change over valve is more of a bear since it has two bolts that screw in from bottom up. One bolt is easiest to reach while your Alternator is out, the other by removing the throttle body cross tube and resonance tube. You can also get to all of the vacuum lines with these two tubes out. In the attached photos, the device listed as the "Air Change Over Valve" is actually the Electronic Change Over Valve (the Air Change Over Valve is just behind and above it.

Be sure to order all of your parts from Sunset Porsche since they are by far the lowest cost source.

Great, Terry, the photos help!
I will remove the alternator.
Wow... after replacing all that, you still have the CEL!!!

Have you try the MAF Sensor and O2 Sensor?

I should read your renntech post.

Thats why I suspect a vacuum leak somewhere. Next week I'll try to track it down. I cleaned the MAF and Throttle body a few months ago when the light first came on. I have not looked at the O2 Senors since that should be a different CEL code. Also, the car has 47K miles on it with is about right for the Air Injection System, but a bit early for the O2 Sensors (unless you have replaced the headers or CATs with something after market).
