The Porsche RS Spyder Prototype was supposed to be at the ALMS at Laguna Seca yesterday. anybody around these parts make it out there? Any pictures?

I went down on Saturday. I didn't take any pictures, although I bought a print.

It was fast - for the first 2 hours, it kept up with the LMP1 class, then it seemed to slow in the third hour. Not sure if it was the cooling of the weather, desire to be careful to make sure they won their class, or they didn't want to appear to be too fast.

The RS qualified 5 seconds faster than the next LMP2. I think it also finished at least 3 laps ahead of second in class.

One the folks in the Porsche Platz saw Roger Penske in the pits early Saturday morning. He asked Roger if the gearbox problem was fixed. Roger replied, to effect, "well is it Porsche".

Does anyone know why the ALMS race was on Saturday? It looked to me like the Sunday races were feeder events. Did I miss something? Just what was supposed to be the big ticket draw for the w/e?

I'm kinda bothered b/c I finally arranged to have a Sunday off work and I wanted to go for 2 big reasons.

1) practice panning
2) see the new car

I didn't figure it out until Saturday afternoon. I had no interest in seeing any of the races on Sunday so Shannon and I made a last second trip to Yosemite instead.

My guess is that it was held Saturday because the race didn't end until the evening (around 7:30PM), so they figured it was best to do on a Saturday.
