Traveling home for lunch, top down of course, I hear a loud smack , first behind me then in front at the windshield! Then a rock appears just in front of the instrument cluster.

At first I was ready to blame some little brat with a sling shot, then I figured I should do a little CSI'ing a figure this out.

A rock likely thrown from a vehicle tire ahead of me went over the windshield, hit the roll bar then bounced forward against the dash then hit the windshield.

It didn't cut the roll bar padding but did gouge the dash plastic and chip the interior of windshield.

Nobody was sitting in the right seat and a good thing because a little to the right and it could have taken out an eye!

In retrospect, I can now understand the need to have the roof up during a DE session and that sunglasses may be a little more then cool when motoring about top down, they might save your sight.

wow. that is the first rock chip i have ever seen on the inside of the windshield. glad you are ok.

Dude, glad you are ok.

That is a big piece of rock - maybe its the (third) pic making it look huge, but I can't see how a tire on a vehicle up front could kick up such a large one.

As for the size of the rock, that's why I thought of the sling shot, maybe a truck tire?

What ever the case, I am glad it missed me, going to slouch down a little more while I drive...

LOL! Tell that to open cockpit drivers like me. Nothing a full face helmet wouldnt take. I always used to get pelted with stones and rubber in my open cockpit 914.

That's crazy, Westcoaster. I'm glad no one was hurt. If you need a referral to a windshield repair guy, send me a PM.

Good luck!

Thanks Snaxster, the chips are too small for that, besides there are more on the outside then I like to recall!
