Fantastic Factory GPS System

Would any extra wiring need to be done to use the Trafic Pro in place of my CDR -220? Would the existing harnesses that I have in my Boxster with the CDR 220 fit on the Trafic Pro?

If you can find one. They are discontinued but I was able to purschase leftover stock from Becker in NJ. I replaced a CDR220 in a 2000 S with the 4763, Porsche specific model. Most of them work in place of the CDR220 except for the ones built for Ford. You will need two wires, reverse and speed signal. Both are well covered over at RennTech in the archives. The maps are dated with no updates coming. Otherwise, it's a nice cheap alternative. Here's a site with info I found when I went through the same process:

I have yet to hook up the backup wire. (where is it under the seat?) But the unit works well. Make sure you get the PORSCHE unit from Becker. When you power it up it spells out Porsche. You will be very pleased you did it.

No. The stock pigtail already has a speed input for the CDR 220. The Nav unit uses that one. All I did was plug in the unit, connect and route the the antenna wire. Eventually I will get to the reverse wire.

This may not be true if the car has DSP as many have found out. With DSP the speedo signal goes to the amp in the trunk instead. I have a hack posted on my personal site that shows how to get it to the radio.

TRUE TRUE TRUE. The Guy at Becker specifically asked me if my car had the upgraded AMP. (I am assuming he meant the DSP.) The NAV unit can still be used but YES a little rewiring needs to be done (as illustraded by Tom's hack.)
