GGR AX #4, Alameda Point

Rats, I have to pass on this event too as I will be in "Lost Wages" that week. Hopefully I will win big and come home with a new GT3! : )

I stay in second gear, which is plenty for me.

If you have a Boxster, 2nd is good for about 70 mph. In fact, if you're in the sweet spot at all (5500 and up), you'd be over the 55 mph limit.

I know what you mean, though. I definitely have a preference for particular corner speeds. Anything under 30 and it's boring and anything over 80 and it starts to get intimidating (to me).

Scott, you going to make it out with the S2000?:)

Joe Hoppa is out just about every event with his...

I've been itching to. This time, I'll actually be awake and within 5 miles of you guys. But I'll be doing the classroom portion of the motorcycle safety class.

But I am looking forward to a "proper" autox. That remark is pointed at the 3 run SCCA autox that felt like a waste of gas and time. I can't wait to get my full birth-right of 8 runs per day and really practice. There is a big difference between the way one needs to drive a relatively long hooded car with LSD and a soft front swaybar and a Boxster. I can tell that I'm getting better as I get more used to it. And I can also tell that with a decent set of tires, it would be a real hoot. As soon as I wear these crapola tires off, I'm getting 01Rs and I'll be looking to get street tire TTOD. Uh oh. Check writing abilities possibly better than check cashing abilities. :D

in pure street tire class you would have a tough row to hoe....
even in class with tires like the Falken RT615s you would have to work pretty hard.:p
It would be great to see you out at an event again Scott. I had forgotten about your "cycle" class. Maybe the next one, it will be at Alameda also IIRC.:)

We have a SCCA guy in a CaymanS that is on Falkens and he is fast.
Larry Sharp in his RSA on pure streets and me in my C2 on pure streets (over 200 wear rating), Greg Adams in a CaymanS on pure streets...

lots of friendly competition...come on out and have some fun...

A guy's gotta have goals right? Nah, I haven't forgotten how much talent is in the GGR. It's just fun to compete.

Have you heard the expression "The older I get, the faster I was."? Well, that's how I feel. Thankfully, I have video to remind me that I was kinda fast back in the day. But I can honestly say I probably haven't been fast in 4 years. It will take a total recommitment to seat time to fix my woes but I think it will happen.

I hope to have competitive tires for next season and a 100% return to the autox scene. And I am now 90% sure that I'm going to keep my S2000 as a track car after I become able to buy a new car for the road. Sigh. That's further out.

What's with the change?

Dan,

What's with the white car pictured in your avatar? It looks like the engine is in the wrong place...

Doug

yep, I am reverting to the dark side...

back to my original Porsche roots. I have wanted a C2 for many years. I was actually looking for one when I bought my '99 Boxster.

this one is super clean inside and out.
I am going to do my version of a Euro 964 RS, already have the Euro RS front and rear sway bars sourced, just deciding on my springs and shocks..

Nice looking car, Dan. I wouldn't have noticed the avatar if Doug hadn't pointed it out. You are supposed to blatantly brag about your new rides. ;) Guess I would eventually see if I ever get out to another autox.

:D:D:D bragging will commence shortly.:D;)

here are a couple of quick pics of the exterior....and yes it looks as good in person as it does in the pics:eek:

Looks like I'll be there in my new-to-me 03 986!

This will be my first autocross in 3 or 4 years... If I can get up early to make it, that is...

I used to autocross my 964 with the GGR.

I have not autocrossed the 986 yet (just got it today, actually). Should I try the car for a few runs and then ask an instructor to ride with me?

try to get an instructor first thing....take them with you on your first couple of runs, maybe ride with them and then go for it on your own.

We have quite a number of GGR instructors that are Boxster pilots, so you will be in good company.

Here I am going the opposite direction back to a 964 after my Boxster and a very well set up AX/Track 914.......should be interesting:D

Ah, I see we have another one hooked.;)

good for you...

where is Gerry hiding....and a few others.

hey dan..nice looking new toy..very nice :D

yah, im guilty...im hiding due to alot of reason...hehehehehe! but will get back on my feet again, soon :D

where is it?

So much for exposing myself as a rank newbie with a day old Boxster S. :)

How do you get there and what time does it start?

Probably won't be driving, but would definitely like to check out the goings on.

thanks!
Jim

did you say, "day old Boxster S"? whoa, whoa, whoa...wait a minute! did i miss your thread about your new box with the picture or you haven't started yet?

my suggestion is..start your thread about your box and put your self in the map before the "newbie patrol" gets you :D

so what did you all think of the course today:confused::D

and how did you do?

I liked the course. Interesting sections, and many things to try. I don't think that it was an easy course to master...
However, it's been a while since my last autocross. So I may be a slower learner than I was before.

I like how my new car behaved on the course. Much to learn, but I am quite happy with the way it behaves.

Ax #4

Dan,

I enjoyed the course, even though it was designed for the high horsepower cars. I still felt it was challenging and I put my 986 through the paces. It would have nice if it was longer and had more turns that required advanced techniques and skills.

Who is the next course designer?

Looking forward to AX#5!!!!:)
