Anybody miss us? bearing in mind that i am too sensitive...........:p

we are in paducah, ky tonight and will be home tomorrow. finally found a wifi network. we will have put 2000 miles on the car by the time we get home. we found a new road (new to us. the hip people probably know of it.) highway 129 over the smoky mountains from tenn. to north carolina. 318 curves in 11 miles. this road is more fun that is normally legal. it is called tail of the dragon. do a google search and you will find it. we did it off season, so there was very little traffic on it. just a couple of motorcycles, a couple of mini coopers, and us. when you pull up behind normal traffic, they all pulled over to let us by. i have pictures of the gps that will show the road. when we get home i will try and figure out the picture thing so you can see what we are talking about. but i just wanted to tell everyone about the dragon. follow up with pictures to come.

Excellent. I have heard of that road. Look forward to the pictures.

Get home safe, baxter. Sounds like you're having a great time!

ok, trying to post a pic here. hope this works. first is one for snaxster, since this is one thing he can no longer do.......:D :D :D :D
the second pic is an attempt to show the roads using our gps.
lastly is where we stayed.
we have tons of pictures, but the bottom line is this is the most fun i ever imagined i could have on a road trip. we put 2000 miles on the car, and smiled every bit of the way.
the last pic is at the request of my wife....she took it and thinks it is cool ;)

My wife thought I was nuts to take this shot. I'm glad to see I'm not alone! ;) Have a great trip!

Hey, baxter... I resemble that remark! But what do you mean I can't do that? I can sit in my car for a photo. :p But thanks for thinking of me. Since I can't flip my top anymore, my hat's off to you. :D

That photo of the GPS map is hilarious! I love how big the car icon is. I'm glad y'all had such a good time and a safe return.

Hello, BoxsterBob & anyone who has a GPS like BoxsterBobs..........
Do you find the GPS easy to install? Did you do it yourself? Where is a good place to look at one or some other types. I have been thinking about getting one.
Thanks

I got the Garmin c320 for Christmas. If you don't mind the clunky cigarette adapter, it can be installed by a 5 year old, just stick the suction cup to the window and plug it in. (According to the instructions, suction cup install is illegal in California! )

I hated having the adapter and toyed with building a custom mount in the center console, but I learned I may have to add an external antenna if it isn't on the dash AND this would also eliminate the "portable" benefit. So I compromised and decided to use the stock mount and placed it on the left. It doesn't inhibit the view and is less obvious to the would be thief. To eliminate the adapter and allow power only with the key in, I went to radio shack and bought the appropriate jack ($12) and wired it directly to the fuse box, also conveniently on the left side, no monkeying with the dash, I simply slid the wire between the dash and the A-pillar. I think I wired it into the AC fuse as it is key dependent. Here is a shot of the Radio Shack bits and two of the finished install.

I believe the plug for the c320 was "N". I wonder if I can get a Savanna Beige trim piece?

Less distracting than in the center of the windshield and no ugly cord.

On the left it doesn't scream "steal me" and it's easily removed from the mount and slipped in the truck when leaving the top down. :)
