I ordered a car from Rector and will be picking it up on the 26th. Wife and I are flying down to pick it up. Yippeee!!!!!!

Car is SG/BLK/BLK 987S with 19 Carrera Classics, PCM, Crest in headrests, etc.

Having them install the 3M on the bumper only. They'll do a nice job, right?

Need suggestions on a route through Napa/Sonoma and back to Seattle as we'll be driving it back home. I've been to Napa and Sonoma a couple years ago (2000). Any new wineries that are great finds?

All suggestions and input are appreciated.

Now my permagrin from my 986 to the 987 is just getting bigger! :D

Thanks all.

Congrats. I bought my car from Rector 5 years ago and picked it up on May 25th.

If you've got the time going up the coast via Hwy 1 is the way to go especially with nice weather. You can easily make Ft. Bragg the 1st day. If you're in a bit more of a hurry then cutting inland at Ft. Bragg is certainly an option. Otherwise, continue up the coast to Oregon and beyond. The terrain is great as is the scenery and it will help with the break-in process with all the gear changes.

Depending on how you plan your trip... consider taking 28 out of Napa to Butts Canyon to 29 and through Lake County. Or out of Sonoma 28 is a great way to get from 101 to 1.

The most bang for the buck is stay on St Helena Hwy (hwy 29) best ones to stop at are: Grgich Hills Cellars, Niebaum-Coppola Estate,Prager Winery (best port ever!!) V Sattui, and Mondavi. They are all in the same street, make sure you bring a camera and a detail rag Great picture spots! and if you are still standing (dont get too drunk in your brand new car) Dinner at the cullinary academy or my favorite; French Laundry (very hard to get into make reservation and plan ahead famous for 9 course tasting menu....Dont worry the boxster can hold a case of wine easy! (will have to leave your luggage at home and just bring a toothbrush and underwear) : )

Thanks everyone. I knew I could get good info here! :)

This will be my second trip to Napa. First time was 2000. Never really got too tipsy even though we went to Coppola, Ravenswood, Merryvale (my favorite), Cakebread, Clos Pegase, Clos du Bois, etc.

I'm thinking about hitting Grgich, Chateau Souverain, Merryvale, Peju(?), Simi, Hess, Caymus, Stags Leap, etc. Still working on the list. I might try your Prager for an evening Port. Let me know if there are more suggestions.

As for luggage space...I am sharing a small bag with my wife and will also bring my Porsche backpack I got at the factory last May. Keeping as much room for both trunks to be filled. Glad there isn't a spare now. ;)

Great suggestions on the eateries. I hadn't heard about French Laundry.

Thanks guys!

if you're heading to Napa, make the trip to Jarvis and check out the winery there. It is one of the few "unique" wineries in that it is completely underground (well, save the vines).

Besides, what other tour are you going to go on which includes a stop in the LADIES ROOM as a part of the tour (oh yes, Leticia, the wife of the husband wife duo, has outdone herself with the gold plating in the ladies room..)

The guided tours are super, the wines are to die for (a little pricey @ $100/750ml)

If you're traveling thru Sonoma County, then stops at Simi and Chateau Souverain are a must. A meal at Chateau Souverain is accompanied by a great view of the Alexander Valley. Hey, the wines are great too, and reasonably priced.
If time isn't an issue, a scenic route is north on Hwy 101 to Cloverdale, then west on 128 to Hwy 1. You can get back to Interstate 5 just north of the CA/OR state line.
I've attached a photo of the winery....btw, that's my birthday treat to myself in the foreground. Picked it up in San Jose in early April. Unlike you, my drive home was only a couple of hours...but "ear-to-ear grins" none the less.
