Hi Everyone,

I'm new to the Boxster but not Porsche. My 928 was stolen about a month ago and I rebounded by getting an 03 Boxster S. I'm happy.

By day I'm an executive working in Novato and by weekend I'm the Chief Steward for the National Auto Sport Association (N.A.S.A.) so it's likely I've met some of you already at Sears Point or Thunderhill.

I look forward to learning & sharing more about these wonderful autos.

Don

Welcome!

Sorry to hear about your 928S (I love that car).
Glad to hear you rebounded into an '03 Boxster S.
Now you've got your engine in the right place.
Happy Boxstering,
Pedro

Welcome Don.

Like Pedro said, sorry about your 928. But I think your rebound car will make you miss it less very quickly :)

Sorry about the Shark. I know you'll love your Box and wish you the best with it.

And may the sorry bum who stole the 928 rot in hell.

Hi Don,
I just joined as well. My brother is not a mechanic so I'm helping him out with his 05 Boxster S. I too drive a 928 and have driven his Boxster S many times over distance. How would you compare the 2 cars? What model 928 did you have?
I'm glad to be here and hope to learn a little as we go.

Dean

PS here is my 928 next to brothers S....Surprisingly not as big a size difference as most would imagine.

Hi Don,
How would you compare the 2 cars? What model 928 did you have?

I had an 84 928S.

Comparing the two is like apples to oranges. The first difference is that on the 928 the key is on the right side :)

Handling:
The 928 handles like an electric knife. Everything is fine until you reach the edge then it lets loose and you go flying off the track into the haybales. The Boxster is like a surgical implement. It's sharp and precise and when it lets loose it's predictable. 4 wheel drifts have been a blast.

Power:
The 928 had the most wonderful engine hum. Nothing sounds like an 8-cyl Porsche. Even if it is the mid-sized 4.7L. Acceleration was definitely put you back in your seat we're going for a ride!
I can't even hear the engine on the Boxster. When it accelerates it feels like I'm on a magic carpet ride and next thing you know I'm doing 80. How did that happen? Fast without feeling fast.

Ride:
The 928 was a rough beast. I felt every single solitary rock in the road. The steering was tight and it was a heavy car. When in town you knew you were in town and you knew it was a fat pig but you loved it anyway.
The Boxster rides like an air cushion unless you hit big bumps. The steering is tight but light and very responsive.

Overall I prefer the Boxster. I like the convertible aspect (I also have a Miata, now for sale) and I like it's power without the bulk. I guess 19 years of development can do that to a car.

All that said, I do miss my 928. Karma will catch whoever stole it and beat the living daylights out of them.

Welcome aboard, and you've done right in my book by posting pics from the start. Enjoy the new ride looks very nice, and properly deambered just the way Pedro likes. :D I'm sure Dede will be along shortly with further...instructions. Karma will handle the (insert appropriate expletive here) person who stole the 928.

You will like your stay here. A lot of good advice and very good archive's. Oh, you will like the car as well... And you will love the car once you have it on the track;)
