New Spoiler

For those concerned with it's high speed capabilities I wouldn't think too much about it.

While a Boxster is not a Cayman, the lines are similar and Dede's spoiler is similar to the Caymans......

A lot of folks on 986forum have had them for awhile now,the only issue with them are that some have flown off on the freeway.

PLUS, Bumperplugs is second-to-none on paint quality

Eric's process is specific to the materials he paints, and he has many years' experience doing it well. Trust me, I don't think you want a local shop painting rubber parts. Eric's great to work with, and boxing up those little things is a snap.

Dunno if its the wheels, but that car is low!

It's a car that was modded BY Gemballa themselves, and between the combination of HUGE wheels and their normal lowering kit, it's a pretty typical Gemballa. What you can't see are all the engine and crazy interior mods they've done to it as well... I believe they refer to this model as the GT-R Roadster.

It has something insane like a supercharger and/or a turbo and/or a 3.6 crammed into it (I believe the lower scoops in the skirts are functional for that reason) along with a host of Gemballa intake and exhaust options thrown on for good measure. Note that the wheels are WAY too wide for the chosen tires, however, which exposes the polished outer lips and changes the performance characteristics of the tires.

Gemballa tends to make hypercars out of garden-variety sports cars, that's for sure (the Boxster doesn't count as "exotic" or a "supercar", IMO).

And yes, apart from being unpainted and not carbon fiber, this IS what the wing in my garage looks like.

Bumperettes need to be BLACK and side markers AMBER !!!!!!
Don't mess with the order of the Universe ;)
Happy Boxstering,
Pedro

Isn't that one styled like the OEM Aerokit I rear spoiler?

Funny you mention that... I said the same thing, but they spent major $$ on a Gemballa piece and did the copy straight from it. Bizarre of Gemballa... but whatever.

Yeah I'm really starting to question some of 'their' stuff......for the Gemballa springs for a Boxster all they did was relabel H & R springs.......

That's not their normal lowering kit. I have that on my car and it's not near that low. The yellow Gemballa car has to be lowered on coil overs.

Their GTR has what they call a "biturbo" setup. It's a twin turbo kit made by another German manufacturer/tuner. I can't think of their name but it's a three letter abbreviation. You can probably get the turbo kit from them cheaper than from Gemballa, but still $$$$$.

The lower scoops on the side skirts are not functional. I just bought a pair of these side skirts and I'm sure of that. The wheels are indeed way wide. Check out the side air intakes too and see how deep they are. Gemballa installed one of their widebody kits to the rear fenders on this particular car. Here's a pic of my car without the widebody kit... still a big butt though.

Welcome Kirk

Kirk,

"It's a twin turbo kit made by another German manufacturer/tuner. I can't think of their name but it's a three letter abbreviation." - Do you mean RUF?

Like your pic of your car. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for posting Kirk -- it could be the angle of the pics, but your car seems pretty low as well. Maybe you need to post more pics of your car ;)

Speaking of the pic, you are right -- that butt is way big! Not that there is any similarity, but it reminded me of the big butt that the mitsu eclipse used to have about two generations ago. I actually liked that one better than what they seem to have come out with since.

No, it's not RUF. I just couldn't remember because I confuse them with TCP which is an American company that made a turbo or supercharger kit for the Boxster.

The company's name is TTP and they're out of Germany. If you take a look at their website their media information actually has an article about a Gemballa Boxster. I'm 99% sure that it's their twin turbo kit that goes into the Gemballa Biturbo. Details on what they offer can be found here:

Exciting stuff! The ultimate for me would be to do a 3.4L swap into my 2000 Boxster S (relatively easy) and then do their 3.4L twinturbo conversion. I guess that's good for maybe 450 HP is all.... I could learn to live with that. I'm dreaming though.

I'm located in Red Bluff, CA, about four hours straight north on I-5 from the Bay Area. I get down there once in a while though. I was just down in SF this last weekend. I picked up some litronic headlights off a Boxster owner down there and stocked up on some goodies for a fiberglass project at TAP Plastic.

Just a quick comment on this subject...not aimed at anyone in particular, just general info for those that wonder...

1) Terms like "Almost the same" or "similar" are misleading when it comes to aerodynamics. Very slight design and size differences can make HUGE differences in drag and force vectors at high speeds. In this case, these two pieces are actually far more different than they might seem at casual glance.

2) The rear piece in question on the Boxster is actually an air spoiler, not a wing. They serve two completely different functions. The spoiler breaks up the upper air flow over the Boxster's very sleek lines, allowing the air under the car to move at a higher velocity and produce downforce.

3) RUF does not change the stock 986/987 spoiler out on their cars....for good reason. If it's good enough for RUF, I assure you it's good enough for 98% of us. :-)

It Looks fantastic! Ive been thinking about getting one of these. My concern is the same as Dans. I wonder how it will act at speed concerning downforce? Good point on the caymen though? Also the Carrera GT has a spoiler similar to this, but much larger. (I love any oportunity to compare the boxster to a Carrera GT:)
I was wondering about how it attaches. Is it like the factory set up? Or do you think it could come loose?

Once the rain lets up, you should go do a 150 mph romp into a sweeper, then report back to the babblers:)
