First question is what's the price difference between Costco and having Tire Rack do a drop-ship to a local installer? Do you trust Costco to mount the tires w/o damaging your rims? Do they use the newer Hunter machines to balance? BTW - Some places will also price match Tire Rack prices if asked.
Do you also need an alignment? If so then it's easiest to get the tires installed and have the alignment done at the same time - which would rule out Costco.
I've had tiries & alignments done at dealers but it's my understanding that the Porsche dealers will no longer mount non 'N' rated tires. Go figure. Are either the Pilot Sports or the PS2 'N' rated these days?

I have a new 2006, it's PS2's are 'N' rated...
I also agree with the statement about the dealer refusing to install tires that are not 'N' rated. In fact Porsche also recommends that if the tires are over 4 years old they should be replaced.

I recently Picked up a pair of rear tires for my car from our Sponsor Tire Rack.
The whole process was extremely easy and the available tires to chose from was pretty good. Before you chose be sure to check out Tire Rack. I'm glad I did.

Also in light of all of this there are those that will mount tires made by non-Porsche approved manufacturers and be very happy and safe with the results. Goodyear makes a tire: Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3, that I understand works well on our cars but is not Porsche approved.

Well, I decided against Costco and the Michelins. I am truly a Michelin fan but decided I'd give the Goodyear F1 GS D3's a shot. So far the only thing I can report on is that they are pretty quiet tires..... Gotta put a couple of hundred miles on them before I test their "stickiness" out. Right now they are pretty dam slippery when cold. Love the look of the tread pattern.
