FYI if you are considering the ROW M030 suspension upgrade for your 986 Boxster our local dealer Sonnen Porsche beat Suncoast Porsches price. Suncoast was the recommended dealer to go to when I posted questions about the suspension around the net but Sonnen beat their price by $20 after CA tax and I would have still had to tack on shipping from Suncoast. I'm looking forward to getting the suspension installed at Flintworks and testing the car out at Laguna Seca in September.

...what year is your car?... somewhere along the line I had "heard" that the '03S already had part of the ROW MO30 in the AR bars (but not the shorter springs).

Mine's a '99, not an S, and I get 4 new Bilsteins, 4 European springs, and two new sway bars of larger diameter along with all the new teflon bushings. Car will be lower by about a half inch. I'm after body roll which the new sway bars correct and don't want to sacrifice a lot of comfort for street driving. I believe you are correct in that the "S" version does have the Bilsteins and roll bars but uses the American springs.

did you order the ROW "S" M030? it is different from the ROW M030:)

row S M030 has been used on 99 boxsters in the past with great results;)

actually I had stock struts, H&R sport lowering springs and ROW S front and rear sway bars...was a great combination.
Still rode very nicely, it was my daily driver for 5 years.
The reason I asked, was because the ROW S bars were the largest of all the 986 sway bars. (thickest wall thickness). I believe the shocks and springs were also just slightly stiffer.

I chose the system based on my needs and my 63 year old spine doesn't need a stiffer suspension for DD than what the ROW M030 system provides. If it corrects enough body roll and allows me to carry more speed into turns and corners at AX then it will help overcome the inability of my Tiptronic trans to downshift when I'm coming out of the hole, and if it works as I understand it then my AX times should improve. I'm not yet interested in TT just in having fun DE ing some of the tracks that I used to come to as a kid and watch the races. I'm certain the ROW system will increase the fun factor in that as well.

the ROW M030 should work great for you.
you mentioned your Tip....how are you using it at AXs...there are some ways to make it work in your favor.:D

I find that I run most AX's in second gear except the long straight a ways at Alameda and Infineon where I've gotten into third. RR has a much more compressed course due to the area. Where I have a problem is getting the trans to downshift into first when I'm coming out of a short hard turn that requires hard braking going in then coming out on a straight a way, it takes a long time in second to build up RPM to reach the power band to gain any speed. The other problem I'm having is the location of the shift levers on the steering wheel, when I'm turning quickly it's difficult to get my hands in the right position to properly shift, some times I upshift and that really slows me down. I'm open to any and all suggestions and will try them out this Saturday at RR AX.

are you placing the shifter in the manual (sport mode)?
do you have traction control and are you turning it off?

Yes in manual and no traction control option. I've tried to find out what the parameters are for the Tip ECM but no one seems to know (including Porsche) and if the parameters can be reprogrammed (which may not be good for street use). All I've been able to find out is there are built in parameters that limit the trans from down shifting under certain conditions and some of those conditions are (and this is only hear say as no one is really definitive) hard braking and cornering and of course RPM range. The most consistent answer I've gotten is to carry more speed into the turns to keep RPM up when coming out. The Sumitomo's I've put on have improved carrying more speed without breaking loose over the Pirelli's I had so my next step is to go after suspension. I can also improve with good driving technique and that is something I really concentrate on in AX and DE, trying various hand positions in turning, and looking down the course instead of directly in front of me. I'm about two seconds away from moving into a time category that is competitive instead of consistently being in the middle of the pack.

there is some fuzzy logic even in the early Tips, but every time you turn off the ignition it reverts to factory settings.
It has been awhile since I have driven an early Tip, but I know there are some tricks to get the trans to do what you want. Have you tried doing a manual downshift early, and then letting the computer do it when it feels it is safe?
IIRC that is what I was doing when I drove an early Tip...
and never do the manual upshift yourself. Let the computer do it at redline.

I've tried manual downshift early on approach, while breaking in approach, in the turn and before coming out of the turn all, with one exception, to no avail. The exception was in the carousel at SR Airport RR AX when my speed was way down the Tip shifted into first and I blew out of the hole into the straight and shaved a full second off my fastest time. Another AXer who has the identical car to mine has the same problem. I've even thought of trying disconnecting the battery, then reconnecting it to reset all parameters then let the car program itself to the track conditions. I haven't done that yet but may try it this Saturday.

So Doc any other Handy Helpful Tips (tronic) you've got for AX?:)
