Posted on www.spyderclub.com - Chuck Beck (Founder - Beck Motorsports - importer/maker of Beck replicas of Porsche 550 Spyders) and Jake Raby (engine maker - www.aircooledtechnology.com - maker of type 1 VW, type 4 VW, and Porsche engines)
.
are reportedly working with Special Edition (successor to Beck Motorsports and importer of Chamonix/Beck 550 frames/bodies) to mate a Boxster engine and transmission with a Porsche 550 Spyder Replica body/frame...

WOW!, Rick, what does the Spyder replica weigh? Are they planning to use the 2.9L engine? Talk about a screamer! What is the HP on your stock Beck Spyder?

Lets see..... you have a spyder and a Boxster. Are they going to become one ? :) Tomorrow were off to Parade. Talk to you later.

the project car is supposed to get the "3.2 Liter, 260HP Euro Spec Boxster engine and transaxle" version - no comment on the weight - and some possibility that an enhanced engine from 'Flat Six Innovations' would be used - 3.6 liter...
.
I'm guessing that if this project becomes a limited production car - it might have a smaller engine - maybe 'surplus' 2.5 or 2.7's
.
the 'Beck' 550 replica usually goes out with a 2165CC CB Performance engine - putting out ~160-180 hp - in a car that weighs a total 1300 lbs. Other VW Type 1, or Type 4 engine options are available - Some opt for Subaru Boxer power - and there's a version with a VW/Audi watercooled engine.
.
I'm watching this with effort with interest - the idea of a sort of super light weight mid engine car in the 550 shell with more modern Boxster engine/tranmission (/suspension?/brakes?) - is pretty interesting!

Flat 6 Innovations is the name of my division that specializes in the performance and manipulation of the Porsche M96 engine...

I have a long standing relationship with Beck and have provided dozens of aircooled engines for their cars. When we got together to build this Spyder as a mix of "air and water" as a project to see where our companies can go with our future advancements...

This will be a production vehicle in the future available with a salvage 2.5, 2.7, 3.2, or 3.4 Porsche M96 engine. The super car versions will have upward of 400HP when outfitted with a Flat 6 Innovations performance engine..

A turbo version of over 500HP is already designed.

That said, Chuck is making good progress with the engine and trans fitment. The engine is being outfitted with our new ECU and the tuning is being done on Monday in my lab.

Thanks for the info Jack. Sounds like one fun project. 500 HP in a spyder frame! Suicide sled or maybe the James Dean special!

Jake,

Youre going to need to start a "suspension division" called "Stick it labs" to make that Spyder worthy of your motor. LOL!

500 HP Turbo Boxster Spyder. I like the ring of that. If Brad cant cram an LS1 into the Boxster I will likely go turbo M96. I need at least 400 HP to have a chance at Hillclimb event I'm going after. But damit youre not in my budget yet. Just bought my trailer. That set me back $3K.

Carey Hines of Special Edition www.beckspeedster.com (distributes the Chamonix / Beck Spyder and Speedster in the US) and Chuck Beck (founder of Beck Motorsports now run by Carey and his dad) are collaborating on this very interesting project along with Jake Raby http://www.flat6innovations.com/ - Chuck's reportedly working on the suspension side of things right now (the existing Beck Spyder suspension wouldn't be adequate for this version) - after taking a break to work on his 904 replica production (!). http://www.chuckbeck904.com/
