Rain and Top/plastic window

Ok

Here is the problem. We have only one garage and of course my wife keeps her Benz in there, so my Boxster is out on the rain.:mad: How bad is the rain for my top and the plastic window? Should I be ordering outdoor car cover ASAP ??. This is my first convertible so any advice is appreciated.

My car has lived outside for 6 years. If you maintain the window (I use Plexus) and take car of the top by using a UV protectant then you shouldn't have any real worries. If you're in an area where you don't need to worry about the car cover getting stolen then that's certainly a way to go. I also have the Porsche Silverguard cover but don't use it too often where I'm located now. I did use it in Sunol, though. The only real problem is making sure you have a place to store it if you take it off when it is wet.
 
They're not just for patios anymore. ;) I bought this one at longs for $59. I bought it to prevent pine sap and pine cones, but it keeps most of the rain off too. :D

Get that Benz out into the elements. When I got my Boxster my wife made the decision to move her Audi A4 Quattro outside so I could move the Boxster to the garage. Am I a lucky guy or what? :D
 
I bought mine from EBAY from the company "values4deal". It was around $39.00 and waterproof with 3 layers plus shipping. But I haven't use it yet outdoor. So far, when I took it out from the box and put on my boxter the texture is nice.

Didn't we say the top would deteriorate in the rain a few months back?
Maybe you can say your top will disappear if you add acid rain to it so you'll need the garage. ;)

Unless of course you have a MB SL55 AMG or something of that sort, then fine, she can have the space.
 
What things should be done to the top to make it last longer?

A UV protector was mentioned, which one, does Porsche recommend a particular brand/type?

What about something like ScotchGaurd?

Or nothing at all?
 
Almost all the top protectors now have UV inhibitors in them so anything you like is the right one to use!

A lot of people like Ragg Topp. You can also get canvas protectants from many marine supply stores.

This being my first convertible, I have never looked for this kind of protectant, can any of this stuff actually hurt the top of cause it to dis-color?
 
The products are safe for the canvas top. The thing you need to be careful about is the window and the paint. Some of the products say not to get it on either while some say they are completely safe.

Yeah, the Ragg Topp stuff says that it won't harm the paint. Does it act like Scotch Guard and repel the water?

And while we talking about Scotch Guard, what about it?

What about this stuff?, I live in a 'boating town' and I bet this stuff is available. There was not a lot of information but they read like the same product... BiminiTopp Fabric Protectant versus Ragg Topp
