short shift install

LOL I knew you couldn't wait.....

:D yep, you're right.

Only got to drive it home in traffic so not a great review so far. It was instantly obvious that the throw was different. I liked it. Right now my only concern is that when shifting back into 1st gear it seems rather abrupt. Meaning, when actually hitting the other gears there seems to be a tiny bit of cushion as you come to the final resting spot of the shift. But when going into first it seems to end like a metal on metal. Not metal on metal scraping but like a hard landing. As though you had lost cartlidge in your knee. Does that make sense? Hard to explain. Gotta drive it more to be sure.

That's a common downfall of short shifters. Same thing happened on two Jettas that are in my house. Kind of made putting the car in first a pain. I noticed on trannys where you have to push down from nuetral and up into the left corner the aftereffect of the shoft shifter was worse, way worse. I haven't heard anything on Boxsters reverse through being messed up,but on the Boxster it's just at the lower right, not a dumb push down nuetral or anything like that.

Is this an adjustment problem, something that a little tweaking would fix?

Will find out soon when I give the mechanic a call.

Please give us a update once your mechanic gives it a diagnosis. I have the same symptoms, but mine is when going into 3rd and 5th. It feels like you hitting metal. I figured it just needed an adjustment, but havent had any time to fool with it. I did do my own instal on a 986s.
