The advance party of the 2007 West Coast Boxsterfest has arrived. I'm writing this from the 8th floor of the CalNeva enjoying a sweeping view of Lake Tahoe. The staff gave Sandy and I a very nice suite.

The trip over was, interesting. Since the restrictions on I-80 were lifted I decided to go that route. While we made it, in retrospect it probably wasn't one of my all time best decisions. I would recommend Hwy 50 for those coming from the south and west if conditions don't improve tomorrow.

Sandy was a real trooper today. With all the stuff to bring up I loaded up her backup car, the old Honda, to absolute max capacity and asked her to drive that car up to CalNeva. So instead of ridding shotgun in the 987S she was driving the, as she says, "craptastic" Honda trying to get it over Donner summit overloaded with Boxsterfest swag. So please everyone, make sure you thank Sandy for all her help.

Pedro and his wife had already arrived when Sandy and I pulled into CalNeva. Bill Pearce Porsche has provided him a very nice Arctic Silver 2002 986S. (The 2005 987 he was originally slated to be using sold unexpectedly a couple of days ago) Sandy and I will be having dinner with them shortly. Pedro is currently trying to keep a few dollars in his wallet while his wife is off playing the slots.:D

The staff at CalNeva has been great. They helped us load up 2 bell carts full of swag and get it moved to a secure location. The Boxster corral is all set, and we have a nice spot to start making everyones goodie bags tomorrow. CalNeva is all set for all our events.

So to all those coming up have a safe trip, and be careful. For those that couldn't make it, reports to follow. Alright everyone, the 2007 West Coast Boxsterfest has arrived. :)

Glad you guys made it safe and sound, and looking forward to the festivity reports!

Hi Larry,

I'm glad to hear that you made it there safely and that Pedro is there too. Was Donner Summit the worst of the drive? Did you take 267 down to the lake? How was that?

I'll be leaving tomorrow morning and dropping a tire trailer off at Thunderhill (CFRA is on the track on Monday. :) ) I will be checking the weather and highway reports closely. I have to say that I'm tempted to take I80 if possible, rather than winding up Highway 50, then around the lake on 28. What time were you going over the summit?

See you soon!

Kevin

Cell phones

Kevin & I will be leaving the Bay Area early morning around 8:00 am up I-80. We want to get up to Donner Pass/Tahoe mid-day before the Tahoe PM showers. I think the weather/road conditions will be fine Thursday daytime. Unless there is a major change, I-80 is the way we are going.. We will be checking the conditions before we leave the Bay Area.

If any one wants to call my cell or Kevin's to find out the road conditions here it is:
Dede's cell #650-766-7188
Kevin's Cell #415-601-9737

Or PM message me with your cell number or post it here.

Drive safely!
See you at the Boxsterfest

I'm planning on heading up around 10 or 11 am and should be there by 3 or a bit later. Weather at Truckee looks OK until late afternoon / early evening.

I guess it's a good thing I never got around to washing my car this week :D

Have fun and be safe there....

Make sure you say hi to everyone for me! I'm there in spirit :)

Donner was the worst. Things were great to Colfax, top down decent temps. Then, typical of what can happen in the mountains, things suddenly turned nasty. Started raining and temps went from 60's to 30's very rapidly. By the time we hit Blue Canyon it was raining pretty good and the temp was down to 32F. The old PS2's felt like bricks. Once we cleared the summit things improved rapidly. Truckee, Hwy 267, and North Shore were cool but nice. No driving issues with Hwy 267. We came through between 2:00-3:00pm.

It was a long trip...
... we got up at 4:00AM to be at the airport in time to catch the 6:20AM flight.
When we arrived in Reno, Scott Callister, Sales Manager for Bill Pearce Porsche was at the airport to pick us up in a Cayenne and drove us to the Dealer.

There, they had for us a completely detailled, almost new 2002 Boxster S with just 20K miles on it.

I'm glad I brought all my gizmos (V1, Garmin, iPod, etc.) since they certainly helped us get to our destination.

It was snowing a little when we arrived at CalNeva Resort.

There we took our picture in the famous Room.
Mary is sitting in California, while I'm in Nevada.

Thank you Larry (Paralizer) and Sandy for the nice dinner. Great place, great food, great company.
More to come in the next few days.
I'm tired, hitting the sack.
Happy Boxstering,
Pedro

Drive to B-fest

Encouraging pics from Pedro and Mary- I see blue sky. So glad to see they have made it. Look forward to meeting up. We will head up I-80 tomorrow (Thursday) leaving Roseville about noon or a bit later. I recall from a bike trip to Reno last year for Street Vibrations that it got damn cold around the summit in September so hopefully, by 4 or 3 p.m. or so it will be as good as it's going to get.

My First Post from Boxsterfest

Hi Guys

Drove up on I80 (over Donner Summit) I looked at several weather Cams before I took that route.

No real problems temp was 40 degrees over the summit with drizzle and light rain. I took it easy and arrived to find many other Boxsters here. It’s going to be a fun weekend.

Oh the picture is the view from my room at the hotel.

Boxsterfest update

Well who would of thunk it 48 hours ago, but we got decent weather overall for our first day of driving. Temps as high as the low 70's at times. The one problem we did have was wind. To say that we ran into some high winds would be a huge understatement. I just got every penny I spent on my clear bra back today. There were a couple of spots where it was like getting sandblasted.

Along the way we stopped at Virginia City. Just wait until you see the picture of Voxster and Pedro that is going to be posted. It's amazing they even got back in their cars they were having so much fun. A big thanks to the staff at Villa Basque Deli in Carson City who did a great job taking care of us for lunch. The food and service was great, give them a try if your ever in the Carson City area.

As a reminder don't forget about the charity auction that is still going on. A 1 week stay at a studio condo at South Lake Tahoe has been donated. The auction lasts until 3:00pm on October 20, 2007. Just follow the link. http://www.babblers.org/forums/showthread.php?p=46626&mode=linear#post46626

I'm sure others will be posting their tales, and pictures, here in a bit. For now I'll just say thank you Mother Nature for giving us some decent top down driving weather.
