I have a MY99 with what appears to be a non-standard 99 front bumper. Can anyone tell me if this is stock or other than stock and what it came off of. I am getting ready to have the hood changed due to a parking lot mishap and what to know in case I have to fight with the insurance company. I want it just like I got it...minus the chips...

That bumper is from a 996 ('99-'00).
The '99 Boxster did not have the center opening for the third radiator.
In '99 there were no Boxster Ss available either.
It's still a Porsche bumper, though, so you should be able to have insurance replace it, even if it wasn't a standard piece on your car.
Happy Boxstering,
Pedro

Thanks Pedro. I had a feeling that it was not a standard from looking around. I appreciate your help. I am hoping that they can repaint the bumper. The hood will be changed to OEM and all stickers will be replaced with the badge and gasket. I will post pics after she gets her face lift.

A few owners have swaped out the Boxster bumper for a 996 so it doesn't look like every other Boxster (of course it looks like every other 996, but that's another story) I would be amazed if any insurance adjuster would ever notice that it's not the OEM equipment, unless the paint mismatch is obvious. If you decide to go stock and the 996 bumper is in good shape, I'm sure you'd have no problem unloading it on ebay.

Actually, i have tried to eyeball other bumpers and have never quite figured it out. I am more than satified with the looks of it and the paint that is on it is such a good match that you would never know that it didn't come from the factory. However, it has taken its share of rocks and now the "backed Into " hood have made it neccessary to have the front cap painted to match the new hood, so it should look a lot better. I just want to make sure that if the need arises, that I can force the part number on the adjuster if they try to stick the standard bumper on me.

I had the need to replace my front bumper a few years ago and at that time, the OEM bumper was ~$925 and the 996 bumper was ~975 (according to the shop), but since the car was being fixed on somebody else's dime, I didn't want to complicate the process and stayed with stock. Either way, you have the best looking car on the road ;)

I'm not sure about the availability of twisties in Slidell, but I bet you can get pretty close to top speed on the Pontchartrain! :D

We used to have some fairly descent roads to get "spirited" on before the storm. US Hwy 90 from New Orleans to Gulfport was a good hi speed. Katrina has put several parts of it in the slow category. North of here toward Folsome and further to Columbia, Miss they have some beautiful driving. As far as the Causeway over the Lake is concerned, that thing is wired for sound...you can't burp over 65 without someone paying you a visit, nowadays. But...days like today payoff with out the twisties...82 and clear...as Jimmy Buffett would say,"It was a rag top day"...

You have a Aerokit mk.1 bumper. Whether or not it's OEM I don't think you can tell until it's removed.

It's actually from the Boxster Aerokit II, which is the same as the 996 GT3 Mk. 1 bumper. You should get the side skirts to match. It really completes the look.

My father-in-law lived in Meridian, MS. He was a Merchant Marine and spent a lot of time in N'awlins. My wife and I have spent some great times in Pat O'Brians. I hope they make you folks whole again, after Katrina, it's a beautiful part of the country!

I don't think its too much of a question of whether the make us whole as it is that they allow us to make it. The politicians are the worst. The effects of Katrina are just begining to be felt. The coastal errosion has taken its toll and it may be too late to stop the tide. New Orleans could very well be a salt water port in 50 years...if that long. And its a shame but, this has been predicted for quite some time and is not an exageration. I have been flying over the southeastern part of this state for the past 20 years and have watched the land and barrier Islands dissappear.
