Will I pass smog w/ cat bypass pipes?

Hi there,

I am up for DMV registration renewal and need to smog my car.
I have fabspeed secondary cat bypass pipes installed
So now I am wondering if it's even worth for me to try smogging the car w/o the 2nd set of cats or if I should crawl under my car tonight and replace the bypass pipes with the cats.

Does anyone in CA who has bypass pipes any experience with that?
 
I guess one of the questions is "Where will you be getting it smogged?" as earlier answers can lead one to believe that a lot of shops forgo the visual inspection and simply rely on the results.

I am not worried about the visual inspection, but I am worried that the emissions will be out of whack.
I just don't want to have to pay for smog test twice (but would also like to avoid swapping the cats :p
 
I have Fabspeed bypass on my 03 Boxster S and it passed with no problems. I would make sure that the engine and forward cats are thourghly warmed up prior to testing. If your muffler is really loud they might visually check to see why.

Chris, I have heard of other folks with Ss and having only two of the 4 cats in place and passing with no problems.
 
Great to hear car will pass without cats. Do I need a windshield to pass smog?:p
 
will know on Saturday. I already picked a "more relaxed" smog station ;-)

Where did you take it and did they do a visual on the engine? I'm not due for smog for another year, but I'll be looking for a place where I don't need to remove the Bose subwoofer and engine cover for the smog check. I have nothing to hide, as my car is totally stock, just looking for the least amount of hassle.

Hi Demik,

I took it to the 76 station on 234 El Camino in Redwood City
Due to the benefit of Eibach lowering springs we couldn't get the car up on the Dyno :rolleyes: so we had to skip all the Dyno-test
 
that is interesting Chris....my C2 is on the ground and the place I took it rolled it right onto the dyno rollers.
Is their unit above ground? The test only station I had to take my C2 to, has the rollers buried in the floor...;)
