Sold my '75 914 2.0L a couple weeks ago. Now in search mode.

Looking for an early 996 or a 986S. Haven't found anything real interesting yet!
Leaning towards the 996, if I can make a good buy.:D

There's plenty of 996 inventory out there and the prices aren't too bad. You might also try the 996 Forum over at Rennlist as I found it helpful when I was in search for mine.

Is this to be a track specific vehicle once you get it?

Thanks Tom,
It will be a dual purpose car as all my Porsches seem to end up! :D

Daily driver/AX and a few DE/TT events. ;)

Well looks like I got myself a new P car...
Ocean Blue Metallic, grey leather
Pretty basic 996, which is exactly what I was looking for.
Power seats with 3 position memory, cruise, heated seats, rear wiper and that is just about it!
Will be finalizing things tomorrow...took it to Sportech and Mark and Ace gave it a thorough look see on the rack...
Couple of minor issues that the dealer is either going to repair or take from sale price...
Best part is the car had a Porsche crate motor done less than 20k miles ago..
Newest IMS and RMS!
New clutch <100 miles ago, new tires.
Car is being completely detailed including buffing the entire car.
Worn spots on seat bolsters, steering wheel and shift knob will be repaired.

Should be pretty nice when all is said and done.

Anxious to get it home! :D

Damn. That was quick!

Good luck with the new toy. :D

Thanks Tom,
once I set my mind to something I can't let it go until it is done:eek:

that is why my restrorations of 914s happen in months instead of years like most.

Plan on keeping this one for at least 5 years, maybe more if it remains reliable.

Now for some mods...first up will be the PSE Mark 1 muffler hack.
Then I will be doing the OBC hack and the rear spoiler hack...just like I did on my '99 Boxster.

The 996 is now registered in my name and in my garage!
Now starts the detailing to remove 12 years of stuff other owners didn't deal with!
Got some of the rear end done tonite. Cleaned around the Carrera letters on the engine lid...looked like they hadn't been touched in years
Polished the SS exhaust tips, cleaned around the spoiler and engine lid in the engine compartment and cleaned the rear bumper and valence. Got all the polish out of the body lines/nooks/crannies on the rear.
Cleaned the rear license plate up and tossed the dealer frame

just to be a contrarian, I will probably leave it alone for now, and maybe change them when I run across some good deals on pieces from a total etc.;)
Next items to be attended to will be to get the dash switch installed for the OBC hack, and a spoiler switch....
Then to do the $20 PSE exhaust hack.:D

Next year some slight suspension changes and a larger set of wheels/tires

Can you elaborate on the $20 PSE hack? Does it require PSE (I'm assuming Porsche Sport Exhaust, not Pedro Sport Exhaust ;) )?

Porsche sport exhaust for a 996 is similar to the factory sport exhaust for a 986 in that they use electically actuated valves to divert exhaust thru pipes that essentially bypass the muffler....at least some of the exhaust.

On the 996 it is a matter of welding a small diameter pipe between the inlet and outlet of the exhaust, that allows some of the exhaust to bypass the muffler....yielding a more aggressive flat 6 exhaust note.:D
The toughest part of the hack is removing the muffler and cutting/welding the SS tubing...
the hack is done without the valves....in other words you are always on sport exhaust.
at idle it is barely perceptable, but about 4,000rpms it kicks in and sounds wonderful on acceleration.;)

Thanks for the explanation. I don't have the PSE on my 986, so I guess it's not an option.

I really like the PSE on my C4S. Makes the car sound like you'd think it should.

Took my first extended freeway trip to Auburn yesterday...and quite a bit of that drive is up hill;)
Set the cruise at 72mph, turned on the A/C and averaged 29.3mpg.
Happily surprised by the mpg!:D
Was expecting closer to 25, but I will take it.
Maybe the ECU was reflashed when the new motor was installed?

Nice. What RPM are you turning in 6th? Curious how it relates to the 986S.

I will have to look more closely, but I want to say around 2400-2500rpms.

Are you doing this yourself or taking it somewhere? If the latter, can you recommend a shop?

Bob, I think the point of this mod is to get the P(orsche)SE sound at all times for those folks without it from the factory. Check out the link from Pedro's Garage

Well, that would definitely explain the relative gains in MPG, as in the 986S I'm running close to 3k at those speeds.
