I am going to go with this for my 987. This is probably the best navi/AV unit on the market and the custom fabrication for this install looks great..however, the shop is in Costa Mesa so i am going to make some phone calls and see if they can custom fab an install kit for me..anyway, if anyone in the SF Bay Area has done this, please let me know..thanks!

The link doesn't work for me... looks like it might need a login.

that looks good, with that your options are endless...or at least as far as your wallet will take you. Take a look at the pioneer avic double dins they have a really nice ipod controls and awesome navi too

yeah, thats exactly what i am thinking about..the avic-z1 looks awesome..

I have an AVIC-Z1 in a 2000 986S. The install wasn't too bad. It took me a weekend, but I took my time. The XM unit is under the passenger seat with the XM antenna under the plastic cowling near the windshield wipers. You will need the XM unit not only for music, but for the XM Traffic data the GPS uses. This is optional. The GPS antenna is under the red blinking light in the center of the dash. The iPod unit is in the center console with the cable in the storage bin in the center console armrest. You will need to order the double din install kit which is extra for the Z1. This is just the metal mount cage and the plastic trim. I will eventually have someone fabricate a custom faceplate as there is an extra 1/2" gap. The bluetooth unit is also in the center console. Note, the Z1's have a problem with echos due to poor software processing. The person on the other side hears their own voice back in an echo. A software fix has been released for this, but I have not installed it yet. The older D2 units have a terrible iPod UI which is why I went with the Z1. I'm sure the D3 unit coming will have the updated UI. Overall, I really like the unit. The navigation works pretty good, but I find my Garmin unit in my other car much easier for searching destinations. The other problem you'll encounter with the Pioneer units is a silly lockout of nav functions unless the parking brake is on. This can be bypassed easily by grounding a wire.

I'd Love To Do This To My 00

Very nice. I'd enjoy having a similar unit. If you don't mind saying, what was your total cost?

About $2,200 in components. Costs are estimated as I'm gonig off memory.

AVIC-Z1 $1,900
iPod interface $50
XM Tuner with traffic $150
Bluetooth $100

Also I forgot to mention the mic for the bluetooth is where the factory mic goes, behind the small plastic grill to the left of the instrument cluster. You will need to remove the instrument cluster to get to it. Instructions can be found over at Renntech. You need to move your climate controls down to the lower console like the factory PCM cars. I have the DSP so the control panel is still hooked up but tucked below the little storage bin above the climate controls in the lower console. Once set, I never touched it anyways. The bluetooth unit is in the same area.
