I have an AVIC-Z1 in a 2000 986S. The install wasn't too bad. It took me a weekend, but I took my time. The XM unit is under the passenger seat with the XM antenna under the plastic cowling near the windshield wipers. You will need the XM unit not only for music, but for the XM Traffic data the GPS uses. This is optional. The GPS antenna is under the red blinking light in the center of the dash. The iPod unit is in the center console with the cable in the storage bin in the center console armrest. You will need to order the double din install kit which is extra for the Z1. This is just the metal mount cage and the plastic trim. I will eventually have someone fabricate a custom faceplate as there is an extra 1/2" gap. The bluetooth unit is also in the center console. Note, the Z1's have a problem with echos due to poor software processing. The person on the other side hears their own voice back in an echo. A software fix has been released for this, but I have not installed it yet. The older D2 units have a terrible iPod UI which is why I went with the Z1. I'm sure the D3 unit coming will have the updated UI. Overall, I really like the unit. The navigation works pretty good, but I find my Garmin unit in my other car much easier for searching destinations. The other problem you'll encounter with the Pioneer units is a silly lockout of nav functions unless the parking brake is on. This can be bypassed easily by grounding a wire.
