I'm looking to buy a sport exhaust for my 1999 (986) 2.5L boxster anybody have one for sale? I live in SF east bay.

Mark at Sportech in Campbell Ca.
377-8055 tell him that you heard about it from Dan.;)

I called but price was kinda high $660.00

Glad somebody said something, cuz I thought it was high at $400 to rip apart a stock muffler and put it back on again.

No special parts... no real weight reductions... I can get a nice sound change from a Maxspeed Motorsports for ab out the same price and save a lot of weight in the process

Don't get me wrong... I don't doubt that it's taken some work to figure out how to get it right or that there's workmanship involved or stuff like that... just seems stupidly high to me for what you're getting in teh end, which is ( by all accounts) *just* a sound enhancement.

Good point. The fact that the 'mod' is not reversible (should one get tired of the exhaust sound or spouse complaints :) ) certainly makes the price seem higher than it should be.

I too thought the price was $400 - looks like inflation is catching up with everything and everyone!

muffler mods

wel I found another guy who does the the muffler modding out of the (925) area code for $275.00 if you do the R&R yourself or plus $120.00 for the R&R. its this mod [ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zv_ljlNOe7M&feature=related"]Porsche Boxster S By-Pass Muffler System!!! - YouTube[/ame]

some problems with that modification.....
#1) the video clip you referred to specifically states that he is using Fabspeed high flow cats.....do you think that adds to the sound??? DUH!
#2) do you really want your exhaust to look like that when it is done?
#3) that is a later model Boxster S and their exhuast already had a deeper bark to it than the earlier 986 exhausts.
#4) does he have a dyno sheet showing an actual increase in HP and torque?

you get what you pay for.
have you priced any of the aftermarket exhausts lately? much more than $600.

I am sure that price also included R&R. Was that for an out and out purchase of an existing muffler or R&R and modification of your muffler?

And yes, there is a definite weight reduction using the Sportech modification....~1/2 the stock weight....

here is the link I have a chance to buy this for $350.00 shipped to my door. http://www.topspeedauto.com/ProductCart/pc/viewPrd.asp?idproduct=1781

This one looks like an OEM'd version of the Maxspeed Motorports exhaust, which is affordable and sounds pretty good... all reports from PPBB's owners of them say minimal (if any) cabin resonance and a nice, deep sporty tone.

I dunno... how handy are you? The Pedro Sport Exhaust (same result but WAY cheaper) is the way to go for pre-'03 cars, in my view--if you're ok with a Dremel. The rest can all be done by expert welding people at muffler shops for you rather cheaply.

Note that '03 and '04 can't use that mod without melting the trim pieces at the bottom of the rear valance that were added for those MYs. Porsche also changed the PSE for '03 as well, so that it has hidden bypass pipes tucked up under the heat shield.

going with top speed pro-1 exhaust

well its on its way as we speak cant wait!

top speed exhaust
